ARGH!

This is frustrating me... has anyone heard anything about US/iTunes distribution? I really really really want to see this... especially in HD on my 30".

Seasonal Forests

Last nights episode was my favorite so far.

5,000 year old trees, adorable owl chicks, free-falling duclikngs, a game of "cat and moth", leopards, tigers and camera-men crashing into trees.

Absolutely brilliant!

It wasn't my favourite episode but outstanding cinematography as ever. I did giggle when they went crashing into the trees. Oops! :D

The Official Planet Earth Thread

Are any of you going to be watching Planet Earth on Discovery Channel? Are you interested in that? I want to hear people's views on this.

I'll be putting every episode on dvd so my grandkids can see how earth used to be, before the new world order changes the history books. I also have the Blue Planet Seas of Life series. :)

I just googled it and according to Wikipedia the US version will be narrated by Sigourney Weaver instead of David Attenborough. WTF?

I'm really mad becuase I have to work tonight so I am going to miss it. All I have heard is great things about it.

Watched all three of the first episodes...simply stunning. Amazing camerawork, gorgeous images. Not your typical nature documentary.

I watched it on a kind of small standard-def TV....I cannot wait to see reruns when I'm back at school, the student lounges have enormous 1080i HD plasmas + DirecTV. *drool*

Why was this thread merged with a one year old thread and that has nothing to do with the BBC?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing it in High Definition. Some amazing camera work. I was wondering how they shot the vertical lifts from ground to tree top level with nary a waver. :)

Dunno...

The HD versions, at least, had "making of" segments (which maybe you saw as well and so already know this). Those shots were made by a cameraman in what is, in essence, a small hot-air balloon with a fan used for propulsion when needed. Very cool.

And, yes, the shots were brilliant.

Because it turns out that it's the same series that was aired in the UK over a year ago - "a BBC/Discovery Channel/NHK co-production in assocation with the CBC". ;)

yup. (which is why I "tattled" on it for merging. :p thread title could use updating though. "BBC/Discovery Planet Earth series" or whatever))
no sense having two threads about the same exact thing.

Oprah is featuring this Discovery Channel series as her Magnificent Obsession on today's show.

Hopefully they'll have Planet Earth on HD DVD for sale. So exciting!
