This is great and can only mean the other catch up apps will be coming soon. I can see the Apple TV being huge, but to me the only thing that's missing is some sort of live channel app that collects all live channels from these apps into one place (ie you download the iplayer app and you get BBC 1, 2, 3 etc live channels added to this list and so on) so you can easily switch between them.

Hopefully this will come with TVos 2!

Bloody Hell. Once again we in the US have been left out. Bollocks! :)

Seriously, I am happy to hear about Apple Music, but scratching my head about why they didn't work to make it available at launch.

The OS for the new Apple TV is brand new even though it looks the same, they probably didn't have enough time to put it in. I'm curios as to how and if it will work with HomeKit.

Why did they have to throw this in the article? "play the top songs from Taylor Swift's 1989 album" Is Taylor Swift really that popular and people care about her that much? I honestly don't know any of her songs and I'm tired of her piping of in every article that mentions Apple Music.

Yes, she is that popular. 1989 sold more copies in its opening week than any album in the past 12 years. She has sold over 40 million albums since 2006. She is easily on the list of top selling artists of all time.

Wow that's impressive. And maybe no one these days sell as many albums because pirated music is probably at an all time high lol.

I understand that it's new. But they've known about both the new Apple TV and Apple Music for well over a year. My point is that I would have thought they'd make it more of a priority to integrate it into Siri. It's usually Apple's MO to have their services work with things like this before they work on integrating others' services (i.e. Netflix, HBO, etc.).

does the iPlayer currently have Match of the day?

And I'm guessing even with VPN I won't have access to iPlayer, given I don't have TV subscription in the UK?

Remember Apple Music is also a new service built from the ground up and Apple is currently working on multiple things all the time, hardware and software. So it is not uncommon that they will give us the core features for some products first and then add all the meat later.

This is already huge. Having Apple Music on the new Apple TV alone is the bread, and adding Siri control to it will be the butter.

There's no sign-in or authentication with iPlayer - it's provided as a public service. We don't have a TV subscription in the UK, we have to pay for an annual license by law which funds the BBC, there's a subtle but very important difference there.

Surly streaming of BBC 1,2,3,4,News,CBBC,CBeebies and Regions as it already does on most of the iPlayer apps.
Yeah, true.
I meant the interaction with the channels... unless Apple is planning a universal EPG across the channels/apps, then it's not going to compare well with regular TV. I'm not going to want to open up individual apps, click through to the live TV part of the app, open the channel, decide it's not what I want to watch, close the app, and then repeat for the next app.

Great now the Daleks are going to be able to watch Dr. Who. They will know everything now.

ah ok, An EPG would be amazing but can't see that happening anytime soon sadly. It is possible though if you look at IPTV and those streaming channels on Freeview.

ok, so most likely any features will *not* be for any order Apple TV's :p

I don't care about downloadable apps, nor siri much, but i do care about Apple music...

May not be not worth it alone as a compelling upgrade only...

Apple knows how to tickle my funny bone

Anyway I can't wait for the BBC app, love British and European tv shows. Also can't wait for Siri integration into Apple Music on the Apple TV.

Anyone knows how this ties into home kit? Can I tell Siri on my phone to play a song on my Apple TV and it will play?

Yes, Taylor Swift is really that popular.

MOTD isn't allowed on the iPlayer until Monday morning following games. This is because the Sun newspaper holds the right to online highlights. I think sometimes MOTD2 is on after it has finished on Sunday, though I'm not sure, and there isn't a long difference in time between MOTD2 finishing and and Monday morning.

Hahaha, WHAT? They are meaning to say they actually managed to launch this thing without Siri support for Apple Music? I am at loss for words...

My idea to take this to the next level is to have HomeKit enabled TV's.

I think TV's need to come with a feature to be HomeKit enabled. Meaning a TV will always be connected to the Wifi\LAN and then can be controlled from a HomeKit hub like the Apple TV. Then you can use the Siri feature on the aTV so you could turn the TV on and change channels and select sources and adjust volume etc....

The use case being....you get home walk in the door..." Hey Siri....Lets watch the local news on TV".

The TV turns on, the source is set to cable, the channel changes to the local news.

then...

" Hey Siri....Lets watch the newest Netflix documentary on the TV"

The TV changes the input to HDMI2/AppleTV, and netflix loads and starts playback of the latest documentary added.
