In typical Apple fashion my store just got the "old" iPods and iPod mini's (including the gold( today, Given the better battery life of the new mini's I have a hard time with going with the last of the Gold models.

Man, lots of folks beating up on Gold.

That's the color I wanted. Either that or green, but my friend already has a green mini.

I would pretty much be happy with anything besides pink or silver.

what about a nice brown iPod or one with a picture of the Virgin Mary on the back - that would be a winner

everyone predicted the impending failure of the pink one. I went against the herd and was at least partly right.

Wow, nice job "going against the herd." I have never heard anyone predict that the pink one would be a failure, let alone a few people, or "everyone". I do remember a few people predicting that the gold model will be the failure.

Heck, I am tempted by the iPod minis at this point. As our stores luck would have it, we were shipped the orginal iPod mini (even the gold). We did get price protection, so were are able to sell them for $169.99.

Now I have to weigh the extra battery life, over the much lower price.

It's worth factoring in the charger/FW cable too if they are things you would use.

My sister was planning on getting her boyfriend a Shuffle for his b'day but when the 4G iPod mini's dropped in price, she thought about one of them. But they don't have their eMac on every day and they don't have USB 2 either so it was looking less like an option again. I got her an old, reduced mini since the FW/charger cost benefits outweighed the extra battery life.

Sorry, couldn't find the old listing for the iPod mini on Apple site. So you are saying that the older ones had the charger and FW cable included?

Yup. The 'old' packaged 4GB mini has a USB 2.0 cable, a FW cable, a 'holster' and an AC charger in the box with it.

Course if you've got another iPod with cable/charger, the new one might be the better deal given battery life. Or if you're happy to always charge through your USB port, it might not make too much of a difference

I do have a 20gb iPod, and was thinking about the Shuffle, but the "old" iPod mini will end up costing me less or about the same as the Shuffle (employee purchase through my company). not so sure that I would need the extra 10 hours of battery life in the real world. So I end up recharging every 3 to 4 days, rather than every 5 to 6 days. :)

Thanks for the help.
