I purchased an Apple Care policy on eBay right at the time of the transition (Oct) and was aware of the policy change, as was the seller who delivered a new, unopened box to me. When I registered it, Apple declined it and requested proof-of-purchase which I emailed to them. I pointed out that I was in possession of the actual box with the activation code and the serial number. They sent me the same form letter regarding Craiglist and eBay purchases.

When I contacted the eBay seller, he then emailed me a sales receipt from his actual store for the purchase. This was accepted by Apple and the registration proceeded with no further problems.

This purchase was the old format activate code which caused the problem. I have since purchased the new format code on eBay and had no problems registering it online. The prices now however, aren't as good as they used to be.:(

Interesting. Any idea on what the old format code is compared to the new format?

I'm guessing maybe that's why, when I have entered both my Mac Pro Applecare and this Display Applecare, both times the system needed more info. Wonder if Apple is trying to flush out all the old codes, and in turn, have made it harder to get the newer boxes.

LA computer company

I just bought AppleCare for my Mac Pro from Yunus at LAcomputercompany.com

He's a great guy and very easy to work with.
I realized yesterday night that my warranty was about to expire today and when I contacted both B&H and Adorama they said they couldn't help me. They had to order the Applecare and ship it to me which would take a few days.

I've heard about LA Computer Company here at MacRumors and I contacted them right away. They offer AppleCare Protection Plans for 30% less than Apple.
When I placed an order with LA Computer Company, Yunus emailed me all the info necessary to extend the coverage online and then shipped the box.

He also called me right away to make sure I received all info.

I was able to register AppleCare without any problems and got confirmation from Apple right away.

Nice and easy transaction. I highly recommend them.

Thanks,

Paul

So LA Computer Company is 100% safe? Their website looks a bit shady, tbh.

Nope. I had my Cinema Display Applecare from them denied by Apple last year. They were nice and took it back....but they mentioned to me on the phone they were no longer technically certified to sell.

Ok, then I guess I'll just go with B&H.. Actually there's less than $5 difference in price ($244 vs. LA's $230+$9.32 shipping).
