They're good, but for the price, they honestly suck. The build quality is terrible. After over-paying for a product, one would expect good construction. It is very flimsy and prone to snapping like most of the display models I have seen. You're paying for the brand, and Monster is the devil with prices, as seen with their cables.

+1.

Absolute junk at premium prices. Might look cool, but i would avoid.

Dre's

The Dr Dre's are worth the price if your looking for Bass. However, I also have the P5's from Bowers and Wilkins..Very nice, but also pricey.

I have Solo HD Beats by Dr Dre, Studio Beats by Dr Dre, , P5 Bowers and Wilkins, and Bose Quiet Comfort 15. I also have Apple In ear earphones, Vmoda remix, Bose IE2, and Tours Beats by Dr Dre. I will provide pictures if people deem I am a troll. No, these are not fakes, I bought EVERY single one of these at the Apple store.

To be honest, the Studios are OK, but not for the price. I would pay maximum $150 on those. The Solo HD's would be nice at maybe $50 cheaper. The tours (in ears) are my favourite earphones, as I listen to mostly pop,r&b, electro songs. I also own a pair of Apple In ear Earphones, and I can tell the difference. I would rather have the Tours.

The Bose quiet comfort 15's are excellent for travel. They noise cancel so well, its really scary. The sound quality is not so well..the Beats IN MY OPINION sound better. The bass on them is just horrible. If you take off the QC15's, you can hear how awful it is.

The BEST headphones in my opinion is the P5 Bowers & Wilkins. The quality is noticeably different then the Studios and QC15's, the bass is good when it needs to be, and quiet when it needs to be. They fit very comfortably, and I don't think they would break as easily.

If you want Beats for sure, go with the Solo HD Beats by Dr Dre GRAPHITE edition, as I have that one and it is truly an eye turner. People always ask me if I get them customized at colorware and I say no.

I actually ended up getting the Solo HDs and I love them. The build quality should be better, but it's ok. They are overpriced in the name of style and you have to be ok with that. I love the way they look and sound so I think they were worth it.

Anyone try out those new Powerbeats yet?

Sennheiser HD280's are definitely the best around the ear headphones you can buy for less than $150. Check out any major audiophile website/forum (head-fi.org) and you'll find that's the general consensus.

Good choice. For me, Beats is usually style. Enjoy the awesome-ness of the bass as it vibrates your whole ear.

I'm going to pick up the PowerBeats when they come to my Apple store.

anyone who says the dre studios suck is ****ing wrong

i am a music LOVER. i LIVE and breathe music. there isnt a day that goes by where i dont listen to music for at LEAST 3 hours.

i was torn between bose and the dre studios and thought that the studios had better quality.

sound quality is ****ing crisp. amazing. amazing bass. it's just incredible.

now i will admit that the noise cancelling is NOT as good as the bose and the sound leakage is a major problem.

but at the end of the day i want the best sound quality possible. studio beats can do this. i love it.

I know there have been lots of replies. Anyone who says they're a professional and recommends beats is lying. Beats are pretty, and expensive, and for that price, you can do a lot better.

If you're going to get the ear phone version, I recommend the Sennheiser CX 300 II. Sennheisers are an industry standard.

I personally have Audio Technica A700s which are over ear, and have GORGEOUS sound quality.

...Anyone who says they're a professional and recommends beats is lying. Beats are pretty, and expensive, and for that price, you can do a lot better...

...you could use that argument with any :apple: product you have also...:p

That poster likes his/her "beats"... I got a pair of the $299 model when they were on a midnight madness sale for $125 and even at that price I couldn't convince myself to be able to keep the beats = they went back after 8 business days of trying to like them...

I have Bose, Sennheiser, Panasonic, Sony, JVC, Apple, Audiotechnica, Klipsch, etc... and I use them all for different moods/music that I'm in or activities I'm doing...

i'm sure you can find better cans for that price. i think part of premium of the price is the "cool" factor.

check out head-fi for more

Exactly, they look awesome; that's pretty much the main reason to buy them. However, I did try them out at the Apple Store once and they sound great!

If I were to buy headphones I'd get them.

I'm not trying to sound like an audio expert but I'm gonna try to break it down...

First off, the Studio Beats is the only headphone I'm going to rate in the dre selection as it is the only headphone I've had experience with and have owned them for quite a while.

Price: 350 give or take depending on where you buy them

Pros: Unmatched BASS for the price your paying.
Great quality sound for Trance/ Rap/ Pop/ Techno (Bass/ Melodic music)

Cons: PLASTIC
Enhanced sound (meaning you are listening to a tuned up version of any song automatically not necessarily a con but for audiophiles this is not wanted)
Slightly uncomfortable as the headphones cup your ears
Batteries

I've recently purchased the Bowers and Wilkins P5s and here's its breakdown:

Price: 300 give or take

Pros: Real sound (You feel like you are in the studio with the artists or sitting front row at a concert)
Much better delivery of classical / jazz/ vocals (instrument based music)
THey feel expensive :p Materials used is real calf skin leather, stainless steel, brushed aluminum
Microphone
Slimmer than the beats
Sexier headphones (beats are cooler these are sexier :p)
No batteries (This should be standard but is a necessary mention since beats are batteried)
more comfortable and ergonomic on the head

CONS: Bass is decent not as good as the beats
uncomfortable around the neck
attracts too much attention :p

Basically it is a matter of your taste in music if you enjoy more upbeat music go for the BEATS as it delivers only in that department and is marketed that way if you wanna listen to a wider range of music go for the P5.

P.S any body who enjoys listening to music H*GH needs to listen to Apologize by one republic (the version without timbaland) with the Beats its pretty EPIC

Don't buy them.

I had them since the very beginning, before the hype, and you can definitely find better phones for way less.

I'm sure you can find much better for the money, but I have the Beats by Dr. Dre Pro's and I love them. I previously had the Studios and the Solo's. The Solo's killed my ears where I wear glasses and they set on your ear, and the Studios' build quality was pretty cheap feeling. Anyways..If you dig heavy bass go with the brand.

I tested the Beats by Dre Studio at Best Buy last weekend and I have to say, the sound was amazing, and the build quality was exceptional! By far, they are the best headphones that I have come across. Yes, the price seems a bit out of control, but if you spend a lot of time listening to music and need a great set a headphones, then you should be able to justify shelling out the cash for a great set of cans!

I own studios and as long as people know that you're paying $300 of which more than 2/3rd's can be attributed to aesthetics and marketing then you shouldn't really feel bad about purchasing them.

Just ordered a pair of white studio's for $200+ $40 squaretrade warranty off amazon. It is listed as $254, but I had a $50 gift card that I cashed in.

I think i'll be happy with them. I know, i know, they are not the best sound for the price. But some of the other headphones at that level are downright ugly and I wouldn't be caught dead in public rocking out to those. I have heard that these aren't sturdy at all - my friend has gone through 8 - read *EIGHT* Studios/Solos in the last year or two alone, but I am much much MUCH more careful than he is. I got a 2 year warranty with accident protection JIC.

In the end I am a casual listener, these look good, sound pretty damn awesome (i'm no audiophile, but these sound good to me), and should meet my needs perfectly. Maybe I paid too much for em, but considering their list price was around $400 a year or so ago, I think I am okay with forking over 200 for these.

More detailed 'review' when I get em...

Does anyone use either the beats by dre headphones or the new tour beats by dre? I'm thinking about purchasing one or the other, but both are pretty pricey. Does anyone know if theyre worth it compared to other headphones?

The sound quality is not worth the price. I have herd them and was highly disappointed by what I got back. I would suggest that if you're serious about buying some good quality headphones, head over to

www.head-fi.org

And educate yourself; it's a very, very detailed process if you want to get the BEST for your money. FYI you're more than likely to have to order online if you want something good but there is an entire ecosystem of great audio hardware out there that ranges from 30 to 500 bucks and if you're into casual or experienced listening/monitoring, it would behoove you to read :)

It's killing me to see you buy these for 200 man; it's great that you like the look but at the end of the day the sound quality is what counts right? Of course you want them to look good; what genres of music do you listen to? There's also the entire IEM route that you could go to; you could definitely snag a pair of Triple Fi 10s if you're into IEMs that would sound twice as good as the studios for (probably) cheaper.

The beats aren't worth more than 100 bucks. If you want to spend around a hundred go get some Audio Technica M50s.

However if anyone's serious about buying some headphones or something and they want a good value, they should head over to head-fi and definitely take some time and read and educate themselves.

Finding the right pair of headphones for you based on your genres of music, listening styles, isolation, fit, and source (ipod, computer, etc.) takes time and a little bit of effort. If done right though the payout is amazing.

Best bang for your buck for extra bass headphones are the XB500 from Sony... I moved up to the XB700 but the bass isn't nearly as crazy on those.

Check them out if you get a chance... this isn't to anyone one in particular... I just find the Beats overpriced.

Personally, it depends on what you wish to listen to. Personally, I would NOT go with the Dr. Dre Beats. It's true that the bass has a deep and satisfying sound to it, which makes it great for casual listening, especially to bass-intensive songs and genres. Drums 'n' Bass, Club, Techno, and Rap sound great with them. The noise cancellation works wonders, they're fairly portable, and they come packaged with several goodies.

The bass is also a problem though: The mids are mediocre and drowned out. Quiet acoustic pieces, orchestras, and ambience sounds unnatural, and even lacking. As a composer, I much prefer a natural flat-line sound... I enjoy listening to songs the way the mixer intended you to hear them. They REQUIRE batteries; It isn't optional. Their built quality is plastic, which is very worrying. My final complaint is the price: You can get professional headphones for $350.

I personally went with the Beyer Dynamic 990 DT Pro. Now, this is probably overkill for you. However, not only are they the most comfortable headphones I have had the pleasure to wear, they are PERFECTLY balanced. And they're the same price, $350 ($179 on eBay last I checked). Is that what you're looking for? Perhaps not. Again, it comes down to preference: A lot of people ENJOY bass-heavy speakers/headphones, even if they sound unnatural. Should you go with Beats? They sound very good, but I'm unconvinced they're worth $350. At that price, there should be nothing wrong with them, and their build quality and requirement for batteries kills it for me.

While I don't have as much of an understanding about audio equipment as an audiophile, I have an understanding of the equipment as a composer: That's why I went with a different pair, and I could not be more satisfied with what I choose. Whatever you go with, I wish the best experience with them. They will hopefully last you for years to come.

Refurbished Beats Studio can be purchased for $130 with a 90 day warranty. What does everyone think of them at that price?
