We knew that when he fired Scott Forstall.

Because Scott Forstall was bringing what to Apple exactly? What was his vision for the future of the company? He certainly didn't move iOS forward. Google maps blows Apple maps out of the water, Apple has nothing like Google Now and Microsoft's virtual assistant is able to interact with 3rd party apps but Siri isn't. Inter-app communication on iOS is basically non-existent as is actionable notifications. Forstall let iOS stagnate. Why would anyone want him back?

Aww the real reason why most Macrumors posters are mad. So what is an Urban youth? I see all sorts of people wearing Beats headphones. Just like I see all sorts of people with Apple products.

If you looked at Beats demographics I'm sure you'd find the majority of people who use their headphones are teenagers. On the list of things Apple needs to focus on worrying about whether teenagers think Apple is cool shouldn't even make it on the list.

Oh please, then you know nothing about Apple as a company. Have you ever seen the "Intel Inside" moniker on any Mac? Of course you haven't. Don't be so over dramatic.

Glad you reminded me of that. A reporter actually asked this question to Jobs and while Jobs was mulling what to say and in fact he actually said loud "Hmm.. what do I say here..." Cook was trying hard not to laugh the moment he heard the question. He was sure Jobs was going either give the reporter a drumming or say something totally strange and when Jobs finally said "Well, we like our stickers better" Cook burst out laughing to relieve all that stress! It was hilarious!

I have heard people say that Apple products are overpriced.. I don't think its a popular opinion though that Apple products are "junk." I don't think even the haters really think that do they?

I'm sure some Apple haters have said that. Either way, based on what I've read, "junk" is gross exaggeration of Beats anyway. Consumer reports calls them "very good to excellent". I'm no expert on headphones, but it seems like the only real criticism is that they are expensive for what they offer sound quality wise. Then again, if you're wearing headphones as a fashion accessory, design certainly counts for something too.

Good for Dre, he came a long way from his World Class Wreckin Crew days. Reading all these posts of people dissin' Dre and Beats, it will bring a smile to my face when the deal is finalized and there will be pictures of Dre and Cook shaking hands, Dre and Ivy smiling together and reading the reaction from people here who will have their panties in a bunch.

Everyone keeps talking about music rights but really what music rights are we missing from the other services that are such deal breakers? Google all access allows you to upload your own tracks too so if it is missing 1 song out 5,000 it really isn't a big deal.

You're all SO loyal to Apple, "threatening" to leave a superb, rock solid company for Android devices? Lol... so leave - seeya - start a poll if this rumour turns out to be true, stating that you've "abandoned" or "boycotted" Apple, and I'll fetch my calculator to work out what fraction of the 0.00000000001% of Apple's customers you represent, and how that "loss" will affect anyone at Apple, or any other Apple product owners and users.

Who are your pre-emptitive outburst rage quit threats meant to affect? Google is full of people expressing varying levels of "disappointment" at Apple... pfft...

Lmao.

Notice how those Google results are all in the post-Steve Jobs era. Apple needs to step their game up soon.

Huh? Dr.Dre (Wonder what he is a doctorate in) has already been sending messages saying he is the first Billionaire of Hip Hop.

You know Apple is doing something right when "What school gave Dr. Dre his doctorate???" is the go to argument for why this is a bad deal.

I think HTC is the biggest loser from this deal. Unless they have a long term contract with the branding, Beats will cost more for HTC to use in their devices. Apple can either buy out HTC from their contract or just charge more for the branding, which hurts HTC's sales in the process.

Beats is one of the worst headphone manufacturers on the market. The sound quality ranges from awful to actively distorting your music, the prices are absurdly high and they seem more concerned with making fashion accessories than a decent pair of headphones. Availability of high quality headphones in Canada is dismal and I was hoping Apple might make a more widely available set at least on par with some of what Audio Technica, Grados and Sennheiser have on the market. Instead we'll get Apple branded Beats garbage.

Very disappointing.

What makes you so sure Apple is planning to do anything with the headphones side of the business?

Eh not like HTC was making much money from their Beats deal. If I remember correctly, it was only for the HTC ONE (m7). I think the license has expired. HTC milked it for what it was worth.

Beats took off when they spammed them all over to every rapper, athlete, and minor celebrity in the world with freebie units. Not due to superior hardware or superior business acumen on the part of dre or jimmy iovine. This purchase makes zero sense to me. There must be something that us civilians aren't privy to.

Any other company in the world was free to do the same thing. Hate all you want, but their planned worked brilliantly.

Hacking in

This reminds me of when Vin Diesel built up hype that he would be in a Marvel movie...but there were no plans for it. He asked to meet with Marvel and leaked the pic or something—pretending it was Marvel asking him. Then he built up buzz (or his posse) with "secret" hints. Eventually, Marvel decided to throw him a bone and let him do the voice work for Groot in the new Guardians movie.

It looks like the beat guys are working the buzz like Vin, trying to make something out of nothing. Maybe they believe if they buzz it enough, it will happen.

Let's hope not. Apple needs someone to push back on Ive's ideas. They should seriously consider getting Forestall back.

Well the ignorant people are finally getting exposed for the bigots they are. Just because you don't like hip hop doesn't mean a black man can't be innovative at a company you like.

Is it possible to disagree without being a bigot?
