Adding a b on future Apple products is their strategy to become cool again.

Cool to whom exactly? People buy Apple products because there high quality and work great. Shouldn't the focus be on continuing to innovate while making fantastic products? I guess I just don't get it. But I am obviously not privy to all of the information.. Because lets be frank, Apple is not in the business of just flushing 3.5 billion dollars down the toilet, and have never been a company to acquire a product just for the sake of acquiring a product. In fact, there M.O. has been the exact opposite over the years. That is why there is obviously a plan here that we are all missing, at least I think I'm missing it.. Because otherwise this doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

If they acquire Beats, I hope they kill the name and design language. But I don't see how Beats can offer them anything they can't do on their own (other than Iovine).

How about acquiring some social companies? iCloud is abysmal.

WAKE THE ****** up Apple fanboys (I am one). You have all been bitching for ever about now Apple is so boring and how they have nothing since Steve Jobs RIP.

This is exactly the edgy move that Apple should be doing, you all should be happy about this! This is an amazing move for Apple, this is Apple saying we are "here" and we will be "here" for the foreseeable future.

Apple makes moves that benefit them, 3.3 billion for a brand that is established, for an artist that is one of the tops of the game (Dr. Dre, yeah you don't like him then you are old... just saying). This is money well spent!!!

You have Google buying NEST for the same figures and what they have ONE product on the market, oh yeah they had 2 but they ****ED up big time and due a glitch people could die!! yeah great 3.3 Bill spent!!

WAKE THE **** UP APPLE FANBOYS!!! This is the edgy move you have all been bitching for!!! Kudos to Apple, this is the most exciting move made since my idol Steve died well before his time...

I would agree with this if the product itself, Beats headphones, were actually of high quality. But they are not. Apparently they are overpriced junk, although I have never actually owned a pair, that is what I have been hearing from friends and reading online.

cool to the millennials obviously.

Next up... Apple announces the hiring of Suge Knight as a senior VP to go door to door hanging people off their balconies until they agree to upgrade/purchase Apple gear.

cool to the millennials obviously.

Can millennials afford to even buy Apple products? Wouldn't Beats classify more as a "trendy" product that those same millennials will quickly forget about once they find something "cooler" to use?

And what have you heard from haters of Apple... Overpriced junk... haters gon hate... Sure you can make something a million times better but can you afford it? Apple could put out something 100 times better for 100 times the price... Same with Beats! I get it, studio audiophiles say beats suck, yeah a company will not be the top if all they offer is a product to the "elite". **** the elite! Everyone should be able to share in the glory of owing the latest tech!

Iovine and Dre have 50+ years combined experience making music deals and building relationships with record labels, publishers and hundreds of artists. Apple is buying the licensing deals already in place, the deal making experience and the relationships.

But its not the latest tech.. It's crappy tech wrapped in a pretty gold bow.. Or so I have heard. You're not elite for saying people shouldn't buy overpriced crappy products.. Right?

This would give Apple the opportunity to venture into and make money on Android and WP platforms and not associate iTunes with same outside of the Apple ecosystem.. clever move.

Let me just say if Apple starts adding Beats branding to their products I will no longer be buying their products. Apple was supposed to be a classy brand. There is nothing classy about Beats.

lol you really hate Beats that much? i just dont see how it can hurt the product line...i would be willing to bet that you wont see a beats logo anywhere on a mac device. loot at your mac device...do you see any logo other than an apple on it?

I don't have to. I already know it can't do bass. If you don't want me to be condescending, don't post such nonsense.

Apple doesn't own Intel... They use their processors. Apple MIGHT own Beats. But I agree with you, I do not see them mixing these companies one bit. If they do, then they have lost their damn minds.

I mean, it isn't a good deal, but iTunes is a small drop in Apple's revenue stream, so it won't hurt that much.

But, in terms of their stranglehold on the music industry, this could be the beginning of the end. I thought Apple would work to develop something better than Spotify and Beats, but I guess that was the Apple of old.

The Timeline

6 months after Apple acquired Beats:
"I never gave them much consideration until today, but WOW, they sound much better than I'd heard"
- and -
"the sound of these is starting to grow on me"
- and -
"Samsung just came out with a line of audio hardware called Pulse audio" (or maybe rolling sto audio);)

1 year after Apple acquired Beats:
"Since Apple acquired Beats, the quality of sound out of the products is so much better" (someone points out it's the same product it was before Apple's acquisition so that person will be called a "troll" and relentlessly attacked, etc. If they continue to show strong supporting facts, someone else will try to change the subject: "...but who makes the most profit with a single phone model" or similar)
- and -
"99.9% needs nothing more than Beats <product>"
- and - (my personal favorite…)
" 'I' love the sound of Beats audio so 'you' should too"

2 years after Apple acquired Beats:
"THE best audio equipment anywhere. Period!"
- and -
"Shut up and take my money", "I'm already in line", etc

3 years after Apple acquired Beats:
"Apple invented Beats audio"

5 years after Apple acquired Beats:
"Apple invented headphones"

10 years after Apple acquired Beats:
"Apple invented music"

20 years after Apple Acquired Beats:
"Apple invented sound"

Might be off a year or two here and there, but that's my predictions.

People say the same of Apple. But even if true, they still sell really well, and with Apples resources backing them they can be improved.

nearly every music deal i’ve seen has transferrable rights. record deals, publishing deals, licensing deals… very common for the rights to transfer to the new owner if the company is sold or acquired.

that’s the only reason music companies are worth anything... the deals are transferable assets.

plus, having two long-time record label insiders will help apple get the best possible deals because these guys have been on the other side of the table. they know the bottom line to get deals done.

i don't think this is about the beats hardware at all. it's all about the music service.

this deal makes it Apple vs Spotify instead of Apple vs Beats vs Spotify.

Yes, thank you! This is the only scenario in which the deal makes sense. Everyone is ignoring the obvious, it's becoming ridiculous.

God I hope you're right.

Might be off a year or two here and there, but that's my predictions.

I would like to think that most Apple customers aren't motivated by the biscuit in the owners hand... I also can't remember, off the top of my head, of Apple acquiring another large company like this that we can compare this too.

I bought a pair of beats 2 years ago. Use them daily. Think they sound great (they are not the best I have heard but they do sound great) and have never had a problem with them. They are comfortable, they have done everything I have asked them to do. Since i have bought another pair for my girlfriend and have recommended to my friends who have all had similar experiences as me. So I guess we are lucky!!! I think beats is a great product...but from everything I have been reading lately I guess im in the minority.
