This should be some of the last Beats branded product to launch. You see it often when companies get bought out: products in manufacturing pipeline with money on the books and pre-costed via R&D, engineering, OEM partners, retailers, etc.

I fully expect that by 2016, a whole new generation of Apple branded and designed headphones using the former Beats/patented technology will be releasing. In addition to the current cost models, I also expect a product range with more expensive and better quality options that will compete with higher fidelity producing competitors.

I have a navy/royal pair. They also come in black, white, and red. What color are you looking for?

And before everyone chimes in to say how "crap" Beats headphones sound, you need to read some reviews of the newer headphones. They don't sound like crap anymore. They are a perfect mirror of any Apple branded product: they still may be expensive for what you get, but they look great. And now they sound great, too.

No they don't. A pair of Audio Technicas M50X are cheaper and much better sounding.

Of course, if you want "swag", go with Beats. No audiophile would ever wear a pair in public, not because they think they're superior, but because they just sound....not as good as other options.

"Better can be had for less". "Paying for the name". "Just a fashion statement." While all those may be true, it discounts the most important factor: people buy what they like. Seems like a lot of people like them. I've never owned or wanted any. But based on the reviews of the actual product, if I'm in the market for new cans, they can get a listen.

A lot of people love Monster audio and video cables and while they are okay, they are overpriced. My point was just that popular does not mean better. They are extremely well marketed so they have a mind share. I'd bet that the majority of people would choose something else if they seriously compared them to other products that cost the same and could get past the "cool" factor of the name.

But I could be wrong and people are certainly free to vote with their wallets.

I think they pay the high price for Beats to get the design. It IS a nice design. They just cost way more money than what I can believe people are spending on headphones.

I would have to agree but I opened up to them mainly because I'm doing the same for many of my Apple products.

The real hard part for me was the audio quality. Anything less than a Solo is mediocre and the Solos and up are on par with a lot of cans out there for a little less to almost half of the price.

Those look awesome, and are heavy, and Blue is a great company ... But those arent even in the same league as the Solos.

I'd take the Mo-Fi over the Studios though.

Nowhere in any quote on any Beats thread have I ever said they are better than any other brand (you can check my post history). I have said they are more popular. The point you made has been made by many others, including me. The problem with what you're doing here(bolded portion of your quote) is the same problem that has existed in every Beats thread. You are assuming people only buy Beats because they are cool, or hip, or the brand recognition. That could all be true. The other thing that could be true? They like the sound:eek: Yup, they could like the sound. The second assumption is people only need to hear other cans to hear the difference. While true, it discounts that those people might still find the sound of the Beats cans preferable. I like Senn's, but there's no guarantee the Beats fan is going to like them just because they hear them. Same with Grado, AT, B&W, etc. People are voting with their wallets. For the most part they're voting Beats. They buy what they like, even though others feel better can be had for cheaper.

Yay Beats....

I got the non wireless version, and love them...

That would be right .. Apple has the Gold ones NOW i just bought some... :p

Since Apple's acquired Beats, has their quality gotten any better?

I've never used them, but a common complaint I've heard is that they over do the bass in most situations.

The last ones have had very good review even from audiophile sites PRIOR to Apple buying them. Though, some people here are still thumbing their nose because supposedly only "gang bangers" (sic) buy these things.

Beats by Dr. Dre (first generation) were designed by Monster, who is no longer involved in the company, and Beats had completely different owners back then.

The second generation Beats were designed user new ownership, and with Beats own engineers.

The first and second generation beats were designed by two completely different companies. They have no relation to each other whatsoever, other than the name. This cannot be stressed enough.

Saying that the current generation Beats suck because the previous generation was horrible is as ridiculous as saying you'd never buy an iPhone 6, because Samsung designed a horrible phone in 2009.
Who were the owners back then? All I can find that is the Dre and Jimmy founded it, so who were these other owners?

What do people have against the "cool" factor of headphones? We must not forget that headphones are very much fashion accessories. These things are placed prominently on your body, so naturally people want them to look good. It's no different than buying a well designed watch, for example.

I wonder if the haters have actually heard the headphones or they're just parroting what everybody says? Ironically, these parrots think they're being original by not looking like the masses. How juvenile.

Let me start my saying I'm 39 and I have no need to hang with the kool kids. I don't roll with gangbangers and I don't need street cred. It's my first Beats product so I can't say if the hate is deserved or not. I also don't have any Dr. Dre music outside of NWA or his collaborations with Eminem. I just want some headphones that makes me forget about sound and just leave me with the music. Guess what? These cans do just that. They are just plain FUN.

I had pair of ATH-M50s/le but they are too bulky and the fixed, straight cable is as long as the Nile. The Sennheiser Momentums are arguably more accurate but they are sooooo boring. I no longer view accuracy as some holy grail. The Solo 2 wireless are definitely are the warmer side and that's fine by me because it is more forgiving for longer sessions. They are built reasonably well and comfortable. For this glasses wearer, on-ears are notorious for pressing on the ear. These are not a problem so far, unlike the Monster DNA which are also a fun, portable headset, but not as comfy. It's my first wireless headphone and so far, the BT is reliable and I can reliably switch between laptop and iPhone. No dropouts, but I haven't tested distance. The control on the left earcup lets you adjust volume and advance tracks/pause and they work in a similar fashion to the cable mounted control. For me, cable mounted controls are a minimum requirement, because I only use HP for portable reasons. ATH-M50x fanboys can take your ball and go home because even if your new, detachable cable is shorter, you still have to take your phone out of pocket to control your tunage.
The Beats cable is also very well made. The texture feels nice and the control has logical geometry so my thumb lands on the middle section every time (unlike Monster's ControlTalk.) So, when you factor in SQ, convenience, build, esthetics, and comfort, these Beats are a winner. Or as kids say......."siiiiiiick!"

And that, haters, is how you properly share an opinion.
