Those of us who spent $159 on AirPods get nothing? Makes sense.

I'm thinking part of the reason with the Airpods, is because Apple knew this would be a hit item. The Airpods would likely outweigh volume sold for their proprietary product over Beats X, which I don't see Apple offering incentives for the Airpods. Even though, Apple could have very well offered something similar.

These look good and have inline controls + all the controls work with android unlike the airpods. I might pick up a pair of grey ones when they get released as a more portable set of headphones. I'm still a bit iffy on giving any money to Mr Dre but I'll get over it if they are a good product. For now my Sony MDR100ABNs will tide me over till they are available.

Oh, looking at the pic, I see what everybody is saying about the cord. They've got those big things on the sides that make it hang on your neck sort of like those LG Tone earphones. I don't think I would like that. I guess they will appeal to the people who have earphones hanging on their necks and in their ears all day. Plus these are too close in price to the Powerbeats, I thought these were originally supposed to be $99. I think I'll stick to my Powerbeats 3.

Ok, way to go ultra fanboy there. Apple already knows they have us hooked if we bought AirPods. Beats, on the other hand, are purchased by people with all kinds of devices. Apple is yet again leaving out their most valued and loyal customers, plain and simple. But that's besides the point that the AirPods don't even stay in very well. I've had trouble ordering accessories to keep them in my ears because they're sold out everywhere…

Apple is smart. In my opinion, they want to use the Beats X like a trojan horse to get none Apple users to associate Beats with Apple. That's why they put the lightning port on the cheapest Beats product. It's the easiest and most economical way to reach outside of the Apple ecosystem and get non Apple users to dip their toe into the garden pool. They know people who buy AirPods are already in the garden. They know a large percentage of those people are going to buy Apple... cuz Apple. There's no need to offer anything free.

Regardless of Apple's ownership, Beats is still a standalone brand in the mind of most consumers. Beats X with lightning just ties the companies together without harming that sweet, sweet, Beats profit from those outside of Apple's ecosystem. Add Apple Music to the mix and the tie just becomes a little more solid. Thus making it easier to convert some of those non-believers.

AirPods are cheaper than the competition, or priced competitively. I think $159 was a steal for these with no extra promotions!

The beatsX are a little different, they are cheaper but also way cheaper to manufacture vs AirPods.

Apple doesn't owe you anything just because you buy all Apple products, other than excellent customer service

This. The Airpods actually shocked me the starting price Apple had them listed at. Compared to rest of the competition (Which is still limited in Bluetooth Earbuds). I read many posts where the main complaint was the price point, when compared to Bragi, Bose, and Murel all over $200.00.

And agreed, Apple doesn't have to pair the Airpods with any promotions or owe that to the customer. Apple knew the Airpods would take off, with or without incentives, the Airpods are selling big currently.

And from someone who owns the Airpods, they aren't superior in sound over some of the competitors, but it's the functionality With the Airpods that steals the show. Also, the battery life rated at five hours, with a 15 quick charge for three hours of use is excellent.

Like the new earphones but I will take a pass on the three free months of music.

Sounds to me like Apple Music needs a push to get it where they want it.

FYI if you purchased airpods this week I would talk to Apple. I called and after asking them why this promo wasn't for airpod customers also. They agreed to send me a $25 iTunes gift card. Which wasn't the same as the $30 promo you get with beats. But it was better than nothing. So it is worth a try.

anyone in the UK able to confirm this? should i add my code in the beats registration page?

The way it worked for me is I registered my beats & put in the code. It then offers to send you to iTunes and/or you get an email with a code. When you do, you will see a note saying your credit, and a big red button to get Apple music. Underneath the button is the link just to continue on to iTunes and it will be a credit added to your amount.

So is there a free trail for Apple Music upon sign up and are you able to stack that free trial with this code that comes bundled with the Beats X?
