So what's the difference between BeatsX and PowerBeats 3? I just bought the Powerbeats 3, loved the W1 chip pairing, made it simple. But if the BeatsX sound better or something...

I've owned the AirPods for about a week. Here are my thoughts so far:
- They stay in fairly well even when running, but...
- The first time I ran with them, one of them felt loose so I tried to adjust it and knocked it out of my ear. It's all scratched up now :(
- I miss volume buttons. If you have an Apple Watch, this is less of an issue.
- I love being able to use just one of them at a time. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and podcasts and find this very useful.
- Far and away the best bluetooth experience I've had. It's bluetooth done right.
- The case is a lot of fun.
- Battery life is good.

Lets hope these are worth the wait! I know many of you are waiting for them. I bought the Bose QC30's. No regrets.

Might still pick these up...

My neck is too fat for the QC30's. Made me sad.

Hopefully these have a longer cable, but still loving my Jaybird X2's for everyday use and have QC20's for traveling. We'll see :)

watch them after 5 months of me waiting they don't fit my ears
I've had a lot of problems with earphones that aren't EarPods

I know what you mean about needing particular sizes, except I'm the opposite. My ear canals must be small because I find anything like Earpods too big and uncomfortable. I always have to get in ear headphones with very small silicone tips. It's frustrating because it limits my options.

I like the overall form of these in comparison to AirPods, which I would just lose. However, I'd be interested in learning how they - you know - sound.

And of course you can point to some alternative facts to support this?

It's well known that Beats as a general rule are not great. Compared to some other brands in a similar price bracket they tend to be poor build quality and have too much emphasis on the low end. There are a couple of exceptions in their product range.

Nevertheless I think the W1 chip trumps these concerns and I look forward to seeing what they release in the future.

I understand why these are not called Apple headphones. Beats just doesn't have the sophistication of the Apple brand.

No, Beats is one of the world's most recognized brands. It now has grown to have 60% of the world's premium (>$100) market, and now is the number 1 wireless brand in the entire world. It would be ludicrously poor business to mess with the Beats name on this line of their headphones. Indeed, Apple has the best of both worlds with multiple branding.

Many people who criticized Apple and thought Apple overpaid for Beats "because their streaming numbers simply weren't worth the money paid" now have a lot of egg on their face. Not only has the streaming service allowed Apple to rapidly grow into the 2nd largest service in the world, but the real genius by Tim Cook was recognizing the value of the headphone business which many of the "analysts" missed.

There's a reason they are the most valuable company in the world and keep setting records for revenue AND profit.

It gets to a point where you're not even excited for a product anymore because it's taken so long.

I started using my Solo3's at the gym, rather than earbuds, so now I probably won't even pickup the BeatsX since I no longer have a need for them. I'd rather just have one set of headphones to worry about keeping charged (especially headphones that only need to be charged once every couple weeks).

Apple doesn't have any sophistication with audio. Never has done. That's why they are Beats branded, which ironically are not exactly well known for their quality.

Then that doesn't explain "why they're Beats branded."

And yes, Apple brand does represent sophistication for much of the population. Whether audiophiles agree, whether you agree, for most people it is assumed high quality when labeled with Apple's brand. The OP's point stands.

i wouldn't even open the packaging on these if someone given me them at all "Airpods all day every day"

Airpods are perfect for my needs and i don't need nothing else at all

Yup. In this instant gratification society we live in we want things HERE and NOW.

Patience has no substance anymore.

Sometimes I can't stand my generation. Sub eight second attention spans and no valuation for hard work. Everyone wants something and they're not willing to do anything for it. Lazy.

Anyway I'm excited for these. I picked me up some new Beats Solo Wireless a few months ago and they're great but I've been waiting for these X models to come out. Hopefully they've ironed out any kinks and they're ready for the big time.

Also, blue? Does that mean the rumors about a blue iPhone might be true after all?

Anyone know if you can return these if they don't fit?
Kind of a gamble for $150.

No offense, but where do you shop these days? If you buy them at an Apple Store, Amazon, or Best Buy (or pretty much any other major retailer in the US), easy returns processing is just assumed.

I would have gone for these if they beat AirPods to market...but having used AirPods, there are features of those I simply couldn't give up for a different pair of headphones.

May I ask what features? I would have purchased the AirPods, but it is my understanding that you must use Siri or your phone to skip tracks. I use the subway everyday and losing the ability to skip a track because I'm not connected to the internet is a no-go.

I do wonder if that's all true though. If the beats branding was replaced with Apple branding, would we really see a sales decline, or revenue decline? I'm not so sure that would happen.

When if comes down to it, all this really is is cheap labor produced foam and plastic fantastic sold with insane mark ups. That's the difference. There's nothing truly groundbreaking or magical about beats, it's just the same stuff coming inside the same shipping containers but with different packaging and pricing.

Head phones weren't invented just yesterday, the technology has decades of history. All that's really changed isn't the technology but instead the marketing story.

My $16 no name super streamline bud earphones perform just as good if not better from my listening point of view.

Siri doesn't require internet for music control.

No it doesn't. Even the average consumer won't be scrambling for Apple earphones. That's the whole reason Apple acquired Beats for $3bn. It wasn't for Beats IP or tech, it was for the brand. I have never ever heard anyone demand Apple audio gear, hence the Beats acquisition. Beats is a fashionable brand that attracts the kind of consumer Apple wants. Apple with Beats audio is a dream team for Apple's marketing department.

Even with the AirPods it's a case of consumers wanting to 'give them a go' as they are Apple branded and 'cool looking'. No one ever said "OMG, Apple earphones!!!! They must be amazing and the best earphones ever!".

We'll have to agree to disagree.

Yeah I can't imagine a feature like that deciding which headphones I'm going to use.

90% of my usage is for video, 5% for audio book or other spoken word, 5% listening to music.

So things like 1 ear use and the charging case are irreplaceable features. I don't care about volume or skip controls on headphones at all.
