After seeing so many notchless or heavily reduced notched phones, are you craving similar designs?

I wouldn't even buy one for $500. I have bought every iPhone since the first (minus 4s) and I still have the iPhone 7. I will never buy a phone with a notch. Maybe 3rd time lucky in September 2019, if not I will look at android phones.

My nephew went with android this time and I can't believe they offer a software option to get rid of the notch, well to actually mask it by making the stupid wings of the screen black, wish apple offered a software option
And then they take away sceeen space for the row of icons.

I know the notch is there for a good reason. Apple wants edge-to-edge design with FaceID. They don't want to do the over engineered pop-up system like the OPPO Find X. The notch is okay for me.

I have phones without a notch, and they have a bit of space on the bottom and then a bit of space on the top with no notch. Then that's fine for me too. Example phones are the Huawei Mate RS I have, the Samsung Galaxy S9/Note 9.

I don't like the phones that have this huge bezel on the bottom and they want this notch on top to look like Apple when they could have gone with a balanced look, then I don't like the notch. Examples are the Huawei P20, Motorola One.

It all comes down the design aesthetics and why they are putting the notch on there.

Considering 95% of Android phones now have a notch...some with a big chin too.

The only ones left mainstream is really Samsung and that's going away if the rumors are true.

Plus, while inventive, none of those Chinese slider/motor slider phones are practical and you give up a lot. Like water resistance and durability. The closest IMO is the phone with the screen on the back; but its supposedly around $1,000 too.

i think it ultimately comes down to apple setting a trend then others either copying aspects and some, IMO, improving upon it.

like we had notch become a thing.

then some said, “why not a smaller notch?”

then others said, “how can we get rid of the notch?”

then we had a race by all these manufacturers to make it happen.

now apple has to decide where they want to go from here regarding the notch.

double down on it, reduce it, eliminate it, or something else i can’t even think of

Apple uses IR Face ID which simply cannot go into a notch like the Oneplus 6t only fitting a single camera. It's impossible. That's how those devices and rumored Galaxy S10 with the camera hole cutout do it with an in screen fingerprint scanner.

It's simply a different path for each tech. Android manufacturers can reduce the notch to basically nothing faster, but in-screen fingerprint tech has a while to go from what I've seen. Apple can't remove the notch (and only reduce it to a certain size) until the tech for under display comes to hide all of those sensors, but Face ID is very advanced. Im sure they will reduce it in the coming year.

They look fantastic and, well, I'm jelly lol
Every time I see an Android phone, I want to kill a puppy. They are all so ugly and these youtubers pretend their crap is awesome.

The notch is not a thing. Nobody even tried to copy (let alone improve) the TrueDepth camera system. Design is how it works, not how it looks. Mimicking the look of an iPhone doesn’t create a better device. Eliminating a notch that wasn’t even necessary, because it never housed a 3D face detection system is just silly.
