The thick transparent plastic layer on the iMac makes it blend in more with lighting than a single layer. With the amount of time put in to design, I'm sure they thought about how the case would look in different types of lighting and modified the transparent layer to allow it to look good in different conditions.

This monitor would probably look different in the dark. I would like to see a picture of what it looks like under different lighting. If it did still look good, it would be a hell of a fun little weekend project.

I'm not sure about the 'Books, but they don't disassemble the ipods so your applecare warrenty is still valid. At least this is what Yoshi from The Screen Savers said a few years ago.
