Well, we are only 12 days from the start of the Olympics. The Olympic village has just opened and I couldn't find an existing thread so thought I'd start one.

Before people start posting, this is a thread to discuss the games, the medal winners, sadly, no doubt the cheats, the surprises and the disappointments, the funny moments the sad moments. It is NOT the place to discuss politics of China.


I know I'll be watching as many events as possible even with the time difference. Even those sports I'd never normally watch.

So let's kick back, get the crispy wontons out and enjoy two weeks of sporting greatness.

The UK competes under the name 'Great Britain and Northern Ireland' rather than 'United Kingdom', although we're not averse to referring to ourselves as the rather rubbish sounding 'Team GB' either.

Seems daft as GB + NI = UK.

I think our biggest haul of medals will come from the track cycling. If the performance at the recent world championships is anything to go by.

In Athletics we should achieve UK:Sports goal of 5 medals.

and 14 year old Tom Daley stands a very good chance of a medal in the diving.

If we are in the top ten in the final medal table it will have been a good games for GBR.

If the US was the best at every sport, they would. However since they are not, they won't. Pretty simple really.
