Better than "Team America", I suppose...

Undoubtedly - sending them to Beijing would surely end in disaster! ;)

"America, **** yeah! Comin' again to save the mother******* day, yeah!"

With the differing time zones and their effect of television coverage, perhaps this thread needs a *Possible Spoilers* tag? I'd hate to have someone's enjoyment of watching the competition ruined by some of our members whose coverage is closer to real-time than others.

I've been a little unhappy with the Olympics this year and the politics around it; planning not to watch it …

Good point. Title changed.

i know i'll be watching the track events

The athletics is my favourite and has been since watching the Coe/Ovett races in Moscow 1980. I try to see all the coverage of the athletics. This year I'll be paying particular attention to Kelly Sotherton in the heptathlon, think she has a really good chance of gold and Yelena Isinbayeva in the pole vault who will no doubt break the world record yet again.

hmm...

Too much ego for one team.

I'm extremely pissed that this is the last year for baseball.

I think it's pretty damn cool that BMX is in now. :D

no way, that should be limited to xgames and xgames alone.

i love both summer and winter x games almost more than the olympics to some extent

What constitutes an Olympic sport?

curling apparently:cool:

im iffy on baseball. i think it should be and at same time mlb players should be in it. there is the world baseball classic now which is cool

This is something I've never quite understood - why is the MLB championship called the World Series and the winners of the SuperBowl are called the world champions? Who else from an international perspective did they compete against to gain these titles? I might as well coordinate some type of sports play-off tournament here in my city and who ever wins gets declared the world champion - no, better yet, Extreme Champion of the Universe! :D Seriously, shouldn't the Olympics be the proper venue for declaring true world championships? (Obviously there are other events as well, such as the World Cup...) Or is the above something we have to simply chalk up to the good old American ego? :p ;) :D

Don't worry, you're not confused. Americans are. ;)

MLB isn't going to stop the season for 3 weeks during the pennant race just to go to the Olympics. Plus I thought years ago athletes had to be amateur. That was what make it worth watching. Now it is full of over paid pros that don't even care.

If you got rid of every sport that wasn't "Olympic" you would only have Track and Field. If they are going to keep people interested and make money they will have to add sports that some might not consider Olympic. Table Tennis anyone.

I'm sure your decision will reverberate around the globe.

Anyway, I can't wait for the games to begin. So much drama, and the storylines for some of these atheletes couldn't be thought up by Hollywood's greatest minds.

Not the biggest fan of NBC sports, though. Hopefully they'll follow the storylines and not the headlines.

hmm...

A group of superstars will almost always lose to a basketball team. They could win, but I doubt it.
