Belkin is expanding its line of MagSafe-compatible Continuity Camera mounts with the launch of the Belkin iPhone Mount for Mac Desktops, which is able to attach to iMac models and different displays.

Priced at $40, the Belkin iPhone Mount for Mac Desktops joins Belkin's existing Continuity Camera mount that's available for Mac notebooks like the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. The mount is designed to attach to the top of an iMac or external display, and then a compatible MagSafe iPhone can be placed on the MagSafe mount.

When attached to a Mac through the mount, the iPhone can be used as a webcam for FaceTime and other video apps. Both landscape and portrait mode are available, and the mount enables all Continuity Camera features including Center Stage and Desk View.

The mount is listed as being compatible with most external displays and monitors, and it also works with a standard 1/4" tripod screw.

Belkin's iPhone Mount for Mac Desktops is listed on Apple's online store, but it is not yet available for purchase. It initially launched with late January delivery, but is now listed as unavailable.

Is it just me or does this seem like a bit of a step backwards to the days we needed to plug in a large USB device if we wanted to use FaceTime? I‘m not sure I fully understand what mounting your phone to your desktop accomplishes? Don’t get me wrong, I think its cool that I can walk around with my iPhone via continuity while in Zoom on my Mac to show people things but I dont know why I’d want my phone mounted to the display when it already has a built in camera.

It seems like a missed opportunity that this mount doesn't also charge the iPhone since it uses MagSafe.

My first 3D Printer, the AnkerMake M5, arrives this weekend. I'm going to use it to print a mount for my Intel iMac and design it to hold a MagSafe charger so my iPhone can stay charged during long Zoom meetings at work. I've tested it out and I like how I can dim and blur the background using the hardware and it looks much better than the Zoom filters. My skin tones look a lot better and my face doesn't change colors and brightness all the time when I'm doing something else on my Mac during a meeting.

Just ordered! Been waiting for something like this for a while. Shocked it took a company this long after Contuinity was announced, I feel like someone could have 3D printed something like this easy for cheap.

I have one like this for the MacBook (got from Amazon) which works great, but been wanting one I can use with a Monitor and/or iPad.

I’ll personally be using this on my iPad, glad to see it’s adjustable too so you can get the perfect angle.

I'm so glad they specified it's only for Mac Desktops, otherwise I might have been tempted to stick one to a MacBook Air and try to FaceTime in 4K on coffee-shop wifi. 🤭

No idea why they can’t just add a camera to the darn computers I use my phone when on calls so this is no good
Right? Even if Apple overpriced the monitor even more with a simple camera, Apple consumers would gladly overpay anyway. So... what's their reason in not adding it?

Just 3D print it Guys.

I designed and printed my own. It works great:

For me, phenomenal image quality when in a Zoom conference. Everyone else looks like they're in 320x240 resolution by comparison.

Nice. I've been waiting for something like this to appear on AliExpress. My Huawei MateView 28's monitor is of similar thickness to the M1 iMac, so something produced for that might work on my monitor.

For my situation it's perfect. I use my MacBook in clamshell mode 95% of the time and am using a monitor. If I need to hop on a FaceTime or Zoom on my computer, this will work perfectly without the need for a webcam or even opening my laptop, just using my iPhone.
