Just received the Belkin MagSafe car mount.
It holds my iPhone 12 Pro Max in its original Apple Leather Case very firmly and reliably.

If they release a version with wireless charging, I‘ll definitely buy & switch!

I see it’s only available to order through the Apple Store and the earliest ship dates are like mid January?

That’s a long time to wait. If a black version ever comes out that’d be great as it would match my car’s interior.

How does it do with bumps, going over railroad tracks, etc?
Itˋs much stronger than my previous setup with a small magnet thingy in the vent and a metal plate between my iPhone X and the leather case. So I don‘t have any concerns.

The Belkin mount can be used in portrait and landscape (and everything in between), and you can change the viewing angle.

I’m debating between this and all The other charging ones I’ve seen lately. Bought an evutec one that is pure garbage. Magnet is garbage.

I wonder if we will in fact see any official MagSafe car charges, since you need that 20W charger to deliver the 15W wireless charging to the phone. Is that even possible with a car adapter? I haven't researched the topic so I'm not sure. Just asking in case others have.
If that's not possible, then the Blekin holder sans the charger (and others like it) will be the best offering.

Car cigarette lighters typically provide 30a at 12v, or over 300 watts. So that's certainly plausible with the right car adapter, as long as it supports at least 18w PD.

Mine just came in as well, great design! I have yet to put it in my car, but will share photos later. The magnet is quite strong and sturdy with my iPhone mini attached. However one downfall is it's a bit plasticky and there is a hollow clicking noise when I place and remove my iPhone mini from the mount. Are others having this issue?

For those who have it... I have several questions:
  • Does it seem to use a "standard" Garmin ball type connection between the mount and the vent clip that you could remove? I hate vent clips and already have a Garmin ball I could stick onto the dash.
  • I hate vent clips because they mostly sag in my car. How good is the vent connection? Any sagging with say a Pro Max?

OK so I was under the impression that the Belkin also charged the phone. It doesn't?
If not, what is the point? From the photos I've seen of it, there is nothing that the phone rests on preventing it from falling if you go over a bump in the road...only the magnet which frankly I don't see the point to. A magnet that close to a phone can only impede its performance.

Yes, mine has the hollow clicking sounds also. It is weird, kind of like the magnet isn’t fully against the surface and it clicks whenever it is magnetized Or demagnetized.

Yesss exactly! I wonder if it's worth requesting a replacement? I'm satisfied with it otherwise. ;)

Mine does this, it could be Belkin's attempt to produce a 'satisfying' click to indicate the phone is in place.

Possibly?? Just the hollow click cheapens it for me. I'm also a tad disappointed we don't get the mag safe animation (considering it's apple suggested and all that jazz). I wonder what magic apple holds in their magnets to activate it.

LOL after my first drive with the leather case I got this. I thought I get a circle over time (like apple showed on their website) but this was after 1 ride
