I bought this Mophie charging base at an airport store (InMotion or something?). It was cheaper ($39) and used a micro-USB cord and works great with my 8 Plus. I also have the Mophie from the Apple Store for home on my nightstand.

I also wonder if it's an issue of how the iPhone is placed on the pad itself. I tried the Belkin last night and the same thing happened. It woke me up early in the morning. When I got up, I tried to reproduce the effect but could not do so. As someone else, said, it seems to be very intermittent.

While playing around with it this morning, I tried hard to precisely center the iPhone on the base, and for what it's worth, the iPhone made no additional, unnecessary charging dings. That said, it's impossible to know if it was due to placement, or if the intermittent nature of this glitch was coming into play at that point in time.

The Mophie has been returned and I'm going to play around with the Belkin for the week to see what happens. I am hoping I can find a set of circumstances under which I'm not constantly awakened by this!

I suspect that Apple's AirPower mat will not have this issue (at least, I hope not). Worst case: the Belkin goes back and I wait for Apple's product. I really don't want to do that, as all I really need in my bedroom is the Belkin or Mophie since my Apple Watch is already on Apple's magnetic charging disc and I won't need to charge my AirPods upstairs. I was going to add an Airpower mat to my office however.

How is this any different than what happens with an older iPhone (or the 8/8+) that is plugged into the charger block via the lightning cable? The chime is the same, the process is the same, all that is different is the way the phone connects to the power source... why have we never read about issues with those phones chiming in the middle of the night when they are doing their charge/stop/charge cycle?

It absolutely does happen with cables. My 7 Plus did this just last night cause my charging cable is dying. It'll constantly connect and disconnect for no reason. This is the 5th cable replacement I've got (covered under the iPhone's warranty) and they always fail after a couple months with the same issues.

Do you guys use night mode? I believe this should all be silent if your using night mode?

I know this might be a bit difficult (and potentially time consuming), but is anyone experiencing the issue willing to take a video of it happening? Maybe one of you has an IP or nest cam for constant recoding to capture it. It just might be helpful to members here. Just a thought if any of your have some free time :D.
Best,
CBL

Agree - that’s prob why this isn’t a common complaint.

My mfi lightning cable has a light which shows whether it’s charging or has finished. When my iPhone is at 100%, it’ll still cycle between charging and not charging, but without the iPhone showing the ‘connect’ notification. So, maybe the iPhone just suppresses that animation when it detects a lightning cable is attached, but doesn’t differentiate on the qi Charger. Seems like a fix would be to use the accelerometer to suppress the animation if the phone hasn’t been moved off the charger - thus a bug (unexpected behavior).

I am not sure what you mean with Night Mode?

If you mean “Do not disturb”, that is on and the sound when it connects to the charger is still on.

Yes I meant Do Not Disturb. I got it confused with Night Mode for display brightness.

my only real gripe is its sort of hard to set down/pick up the phone on these pads without dropping them compared to lifting your phone off the dock with one hand and using the side of your hand to hold down the dock.

There's pretty much overhang - the bottom and top edges of the phone are easy to grab from the topside and underside, simultaneously. IMO, of course.

I used the belkin boost up for about 2 weeks before returning it yesterday. Was not happy with it. Here are the issues: the phone is always warm when placed even after the battery is full the phone stays warm almost hot sometimes, everyone knows about the slow charging, also you really have to position it perfectly center on the mat, I will wait for the apple airpower next year, so instead I got the dock and usb c 29w adapter/cable and am using fast charging

So are you using an Apple usb-c to lightning cable with the dock? I read in a The Verge article (I think) that the entire chain has to support the PD (power delivery) protocol (and so using the Apple usb-c to lightning cable) is a better guarantee.

I bought the Mophie pad from Apple but the problem I’m having is even after the phone says it’s charging, it suddenly stops and so my phone isn’t charged when I come back after a while. Did you have that problem w your Belkin, or just that it requires precise positioning (but fully charged the phone )?

Warm charging is not an issue it’s normal for wireless charging

According to fccid.io both Mophie and Belkin have the same electronics (I have see the photo of interior).
The PCB it's almost the same with equals SMT and chip.
This showing a joint development whit Apple.
Mophie have a better layout with die cast metal inner structure, better for heat dissipating.
I have Belkin now but Mophie it's on the way for replace it.

I really like the Mophie. I looked at both in the store before I bought it, YMMV but I thought the black-rubbery Mophie looked better, matched the phones better than the B elfin, which to me looked a little platy. The phone sits very firmly on the Mophie. I am sure they work the same so it is just a matter of visual taste IMHO.

Went for the Belkin Boost Up myself as it looks like an Apple product and blends in with my bedside table. It has a tiny green LED on it which doesn't cast any light in the dark but can be completely covered by the phone depending on the way you orientate it. It has a grey rubber ring in the centre but all of the white surface is also grippy and rubberised to an extent. Phone sits on it perfectly and doesn't move AT ALL. Mine is in an official Apple leather case. Also you don't have to fuss with getting the phone sitting on it just right to charge. All in all Id highly recommend it.

Haven't heard my phone make any recharging ding throughout the night, and the whoosh charging sound that someone mentioned a few pages back is probably reserved for Apples charging mat which I won't be getting as it doesn't charge a series 2 apple watch and it doesn't charge my AirPods without buying the charging case.

The Belkin charger states that it will work through a phone case (up to 3mm)... and the Mophie does not specify... curious if that is a real issue.

The Belkin charger is white, which I prefer, but Mophie has a stellar reputation for all things charging-related. I think I'm going to buy both, try them out and return the "loser".

I've also seen some Qi chargers on Amazon in the $15-20 range... wondering what the quality of any of those might be.
This doesn’t really fit into the range you mentioned but the $29.99 Spigen (stand) is working very well for me.

My iPhone X easily slides a bit off my Mophie wireless charger, so it stops charging. Have to reposition the phone :-(

? How does it slide off? Inquiring minds want to know.

If I place the phone so it starts to charge it sometimes slides so the phone stops charging. I don’t know how to explain it - maybe I need to place it different or turn it in another way.

Well, if it’s on a flat surface it should not slide. I have the Mophie and it’s on my dresser. Never had an issue. The Belkin has the same rubber ring as the Mophie for grip. Anyone else want to chime in?

I’ve got two Chinese made wireless charging pads and they’re doing what I need. Small amount of charging in between uses For my main charge they are connected to my standard docks overnight always will be

Until charging OTA b comes mainstream. Plugging your phone in to charge will be the norm for many.

I have a charging pad at home and work now, so my phone is completely charged via the wireless pads. Have not plugged 'er in, in weeks.

Just picked up the Mophie to match my Space Grey iPhone X. Also got them to fit the Belkin Invisiglass and got the Cosmos Blue leather case.
