A little late to the party on this discussion... I'm ok with Apple doing away with headphone port and giving us a free adaptor instead. If I gotta buy a lighting splitter so be it, but that's where the real issue is. How the heck did Apple not create one from the get go?!

The Belkin would be fine (even at the ridiculous price) if it actually worked for data passthrough.

Hi
I think apple 'got into bed' with Belkin because apple didn't want to admit there was a problem here (listening and charging simultaneously).
If apple had corrected the "problem" it would show that dropping the 3.5mm was lacking.
So they simply gave it to Belkin to sort out.
Hope that makes sense.

They pretty much admitted this when they put the lightning to headphone jack adapter in the box. They have also mentioned that the Apple dock has charging and aux out.

i can't figure out who the bigger jack asses are. Apple for coming up with this money grabbing scheme or the ones who keep religiously defending Apple.

one thing is for sure though, Apple is paying the price for this bull ****. sales are falling so bad that carriers are now forced to sell the phone 7 at less than half price to move incoming inventory. last week i got an e-mail from verizon telling me to upgrade to iphone 7. 32GB was $240 (24 payments of $10) 128GB is $360 (24 x $15).

Samsung Galaxy S7 has a similar deal on Verizon. I guess your headphone jack / sales hypothesis needs work. And you're trying to call other people "jack asses"...

samsung sells their phones at a much lower cost to carriers than what Apple charges and samsung phone costs are also subsidized by pre loaded apps. for those reasons samsung phones are always on sale. GS7 is also much older.

iPhones on the other hand never use to go on sale. in fact, Apple use to prohibit their resellers for selling anything under MSRP. not the case anymore.... the acing on the cake, Apple cut production orders for the iphone 7 in late november.

Unfortunately, I don't think any of their new models will ever have a headphone jack. They will release an iPhone 8, it will have some impressive new features, and sales will be back up, and the headphone jack will be a thing of the past. :^(

I will surely need some sort of adapters for future devices, or use iPad to carry my music library.
No headphone jack=no go.

Ever heard of wireless?
Regular Headphones are intrusive. I've seen wires get tangled, broken, etc.
Even sometimes a phone flying because the user pulled the wire by accident.
It's just a matter of moving forward and leaving the past behind.

I am well aware of wireless technology.
But I only adapt when $20 wireless earphone has at least 8 hours of battery and good sound quality.

Wireless headphones are not all they're cracked up to be either. You have to constantly recharge them up after each use which can be a real pain in the butt. And with only 1 lightening port that can be a problem. Either change your phone or listen to music. And they don't sound as good as wired headphones and will never be. Plus they freeze up and loose Bluetooth connection sometimes.

In my opinion, wireless headphone is not overwhelmingly better than wired headphone and now it is not the prime time to push wireless earphone yet.
And agree all your comments says.

If not now then when?

The best way to predict the future is to create it.
