These Belkin invisiglass screen protectors are good as they fit the iPhone well
However after nine months of use the screen protector is not as clean as it was at the beginning. Everyday wear and tear does take its toll

Apple literally makes money hand over fist selling these. It’s nuts. They could be $80 and people would buy it. They sell sooooo much of them.
This is not an Apple product.

Complain to Belkin if you feel it’s too expensive, instead of bitching here. But this is MacRumours so of course everybody bitches here about everything.

(Sure, Apple takes a cut of everything sold in their store. Just like your favourite supermarket. Pure evil.)

Notched screen protectors are so dumb. Not only are they ugly, but you'll always feel that sharp edge when pulling down NC. I always get full-screen ones with the black border, they bother infinitely less than these also because they extend past the end of the display on all sides. They should be more popular.

Not sure what cheap protectors you’re using, but the Belkin offering at Apple has beveled corners and is smooth when doing this action.

Have you tried applying one yourself? Sometimes they’re not that easy, and Apple has a specific machine that will apply the screen protector perfectly. So in that case, yes, I would say that’s ‘Professionally installed’, given that they have equipment to do so, when we do not.

I'd say I'm better than most, but those application machines can even let a dummy do a good install.

IF... they bother to align your phone properly in the cradle. However I will say as far as my experiences have gone, the people in the Apple store will happily reapply and reapply and reapply new ones until they get one on you're happy with.

Too bad the oleophobic coating wears off in like a month.

Can't stress this enough!!!

Sadly companies don't make really curved glasses, they are in fact completely flat, it's just the edges that are rounded, but not curved. They can make curved glasses for the Galaxy and Huawei, but not for the iPhone?

Apple's phones are all rounded by hand to ensure the curves flow into each other, so no fully-curved glass will ever fit every phone properly.

Anybody have any idea if the physics behind this? On the surface, it seems absurd to think that a cheaper, thinner glass could possibly protect the tougher, thicker, most highly engineered glass in the world that comes on the new iPhones.
I wouldn’t expect more than a little extra protection for putting down on some surfaces.

As a matter of fact I have installed many. Tempered glass are very easy to install, plastic film protectors (which I favor) are not that easy but I have come to master it... the one I bought on Amazon brought 3 films and an aiding tool for installation and it turned out great... only $3.99.

Yeah, nowadays we use the words “pro”, “smart” and “professionally applied” for anything...

Peanuts when you've spent over a grand on an overglorified phone.

I don't see what the problem here is.

Because comparable ones are much less? Just because the phone is $1000, doesn't mean accessories need an inflated cost so you feel better that you're buying a "premium" accessory for a premium product.

Probably just has to do with impact absorption. The screen protector can take some of the energy from a drop and potentially save the phone itself from shattering since the protector will shatter first. It’s not an ideal solution though, and in this case you’re paying $60 to put worse glass on top of your good glass.

All about energy dissipation. I would love to not have a case and screen protector on, but dealing with the added bulk certainly pays off when I have to resell it.

Had mine for 9 months and the oleophobic coating is still as good as new.You must have a dodgy one.

How can you not afford a 60 dollar purchase after you've blown away over a grand on the phone? Perhaps you should prioritize your expenses if you can't afford 'nice things' ?

This is accomplishes the opposite of what a good case should accomplish. My 2017 iPhone X has a standard slim Apple leather case on it (electric blue ftw), the screen is uncovered and pristine, the metal sides are protected from dents and scratches. The leather feels great, wears nicely, protects the phone if it gets dropped, and makes the phone less slippery.

I actually purchased the previous version, which was only for the front of the Phone, at the Apple store, since the new iPhone Xs with it's new harder and more scratch resistance was getting scratches. Yes, it was expensive, but Apple doing the installation was great, you could barely tell it was there. BUT when the phone died and Apple replaced the phone, neither Apple or Belkin would replace the screen protector without buying a new one.

Making phone accessories is a good business, which is why, despite the countless options in a flooded market, more still jump in.

Whether it's a thin sheet of cut glass, or piece of injection molded plastic made into a case, the margins are healthy.

For anyone truly interested in such a product, Baseus makes front/back glass sets for a little of ten bucks, and they have fuller coverage as well. It's an actual brand, not a random Amazon seller. They do sell some stuff on AMZ, but there is a wider selection on Aliexpress and eBay.

Wait... I hope you’re not saying that you think I’m “complaining” in my post lmao. All I’m saying is that Apple AND Belkin make a lot of money off of screen protectors. Never said they were a rip off nor did I complain in that entire post.... So relax.

Really wish device manufacturers would look at premium plastics. Yeah, glass is "premium" but it's fragile and how premium do most phones look with their $10 plastic cases? Get real, Apple. Make a beautiful device we don't have to hide because it's fragile as, well, glass.
