I replaced my old doorbell transformer, and the Logitech runs a lot cooler now so sunlight isn't an issue for me.
I went through three different transformers, all caused overheating of the Logitech. I'm using a wired Ring now connected through homebridge and it's working great.

Could you please share what kind of a replacement transforme you got? Preferably a link to order one? My transformer is about 13 years old and I dont have huge overheating issue, but it occasionally happens, so I would like to give it a try.

When I installed my Ring doorbell a couple years ago a lot of people suggested this power supply and it worked well for me. Provides a little more power than many of the older, cheap contractor installed transformers most homes have.

I have the original Nest Hello running on Homekit via a Starling hub. While it doesn't support Homekit video storage though the Starling hub, I can at least monitor the doorbell cam from my Home app and receive all notifications. Video is saved on Nest's cloud with continuous 5-day storage, so at least it's available in another app if I need to refer back to it.

If it craps out (and honestly it's been pretty solid for 4 straight years now), or when Google pulls software support (which could happen at any moment, to be frank), I'll probably replace it with this Wemo one.

Another choice would be Edwards Signaling 599 - 24V 40VA

It is good enough to run 2 hardwared Ring Pro and it is very reliable, too.

forgive my ignorance - but, does anyone have any idea how this (or the Logitech Circle) stacks up compared to the Nest Hello?
Love my nest doorbell. Combined with my Starling hub, it works great! See no reason to switch to this

This is the official Ring Transformer, avoid the cheap knockoffs.

As you may (or may not) know Nest is now owned by Google so there will never be official HomeKit support. As others have pointed out you can get some basic HomeKit features with an extra hub or a raspberry Pi running HomeBridge. Although even going this route I don't think you would get HomeKit Secure Video support.

Edit: depending on how invested you are in the Nest ecosystem you may also want to consider how comfortable you are with Google's privacy policy. Currently, I believe their policy is to track what you had for breakfast, lunch and dinner and every place you went to have those ;)

Ah here now Macrumors !!! You stated available throughout Apple online and Apple stores but it is not. Currently not available outside the US well at least not available in EU. ?
I’ve been waiting so long for a video doorbell with HomeKit compatibility.

Definitely better than Ring.

This Belkin doorbell is probably the best HomeKit Doorbell available anywhere and at least for the foreseeable future.
That's not saying a lot. It's competing against Logitech—with the worst doorbell of the category of "doorbell" not just homekit, and the Neatamo which is only slightly better than Logitech

But the Nest system doesn't connect to HomeKit (without having to run HomeBridge) and probably won't. It's a Google product, and tied into their ecosystem.

Agreed. To add Apple TV notification when someone rings the Nest doorbell, I added the Starling Home Hub. Biggest downside is yet another gadget power adapter. I do like the notification if TV is on.

I have the infamous Logitech and can confirm the thing has thoroughly earned its reputation: live video feeds are unavailable half of the time, with even snapshots sometimes joining in; it occasionally disappears completely from the network despite having a strong WiFi signal; the porch light is irritating at night if you have windows in or around your door; and Logitech likes to blame the issues on direct sunlight even when they’re happening on a Minnesota winter night. I would upgrade my transformer but evidently it’s hidden somewhere so inaccessible that I might as well run all new wiring…

I just replaced a Nest Hello with the Logitech Circle. Here’s what I’ve noticed so far:

  1. The Nest wiring was more straightforward to setup. I’m not sure why the Logitech added so many extra wires to my chime box. Not a big deal after install.
  2. The Logitech ring notifications have been nearly instant for me. On my Nest, I regularly had long delays from the doorbell press to actually receiving the notification on my phone, sometimes over ten seconds, which was enough time for me to miss delivery people.
  3. The doorbell pop up in the Apple TV is a great feature.
  4. The Nest App was slightly easier to navigate to find past events.
  5. Setting up activity zones is about the same on each.
  6. I like that I can now cancel my Nest Aware subscription and just use HomeKit Secure Video for everything.

To everyone complaining about the Logitech doorbell overheating ... sounds like Wemo might end up having the same problems. From Q&A on the Wemo site:

"The Wemo Doorbell should not be exposed to direct rain or sun. And, the normal operating temperature is -20°C to 45°C, 10% to 80% humidity."

After firmware update, the Logitech only goes offline about 1 hour every day in the morning due to direct sunlight.

Tried the Netatamo with their latest firmware and it was the same.

My previous Nest Hello wired did the same thing unfortunately.

They need to make these things out of better/different heat and light resistant materials.

Updated my transformer to 24v. as well.

Pretty sure the Wemo will be no different.

Thank you for the info!

The Logitech isn’t 24/7, correct?

Logitech lists a minimum spec, but most people seem to have luck with a doorbell transformer that is 24VAC, 20 VA
This is the one I used (with good results): https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-Doorbell-Transformer/3482857

What makes you say that it’s ‘probably better’ than the Logitech Circle View Smart Doorbell? What evidence is that based on? I own a Circle View Doorbell and it has been flawless so far.

Are there any other doorbells that support HKSV? Netatmo promised support few years ago and still nothing.
Logitech’s Circle View Smart Doorbell. It’s great.

I've had the Logitech for a few weeks now and it has been mostly flawless. Summer will tell, but I read that they pushed a firmware update recently that fixed most of the overheating issues. What sold me on it over this Wemo was the camera angle. I did not want the extreme fisheye effect and I am very glad I chose the Logitech for this reason--it is the perfect viewing angle IMO... wide but not too wide. Audio quality is better than I expected. I've had a few dropouts but they are usually in the middle of the night and only last a few minutes at most. Since it's new I wondered if most of the dropouts had to do with firmware/software updates. We've had a few mid-80s days, direct sunlight hitting the doorbell in late afternoon and not a single heat issue yet.
We just installed ours a few week ago and love it as well. Had a new transformer installed at the same time, plus we placed it so our mailbox would block it from direct sunlight, so I’m hoping there are no overheating issues. Never knew how much we needed this until we got it. Just the other day, while me and my partner were out of town, her son got bitten by a neighbor‘s pit bull after walking out of our front door, and we were able to capture much of it on camera, which was really helpful and gave us immediate insight while we were 100 miles away. Loving it so far.

I would like a HomeKit device but needing mains power is a showstopper.

I’ll stick with my budget Eufy camera which has a battery.
I can see your point. For us, the battery operated units were actually a showstopper. Literally. The thought that we might be out of town and our battery could die right when we needed it most made the idea of a battery powered doorbell a non-starter. In our neighborhood, the security of this doorbell was a must have, not a nice-to-have. I’m sure everyone’s mileage varies a bit on that.

Since we didn’t have any existing wiring, we had to install that first before putting in our Logitech Circle View Doorbell on top of it. A small hassle, for sure, but the peace-of-mind of knowing that the hard-wired unit would never run out of power at a critical moment was worth it for us.

Interesting, since running off anything other than the doorbell wires is a showstopper for me. I have enough devices to charge, I don't need to add my doorbell to the mix.
Agreed. Plus, the idea of a rechargeable security camera seems contrary to the spirit of the device.
