British luxury car maker Bentley has released an Apple Watch app that treats Bentayga SUV passengers to a bevy of car functions not seen before on a smartwatch.
The app uses "bespoke digital architecture" that synchronizes with the vehicle's Touch Screen Remote (TSR) system, enabling passengers to access in-car climate control and entertainment systems, including the ability to adjust the heating, ventilation, and massage functions of their seats.

Elsewhere, users can also monitor real-time car information from within the app, such as vehicle speed, distance travelled, and outside temperature. Meanwhile, media functions for hi-fi and digital TV include the ability to change volume, adjust playback controls, and switch media sources.
And if the driver seat is too reclined for passengers' liking, this can be adjusted from the app, too.
The Bentayga TSR app is a free download available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. [Direct Link]
The Bentayga SUV starts at $229,100.

"As the driver, this car isn't moving another inch until you stop f&*^^ng around with my seat and take that damn watch off." That's a pretty dumb/bold feature.
"Bespoke digital architecture" makes me barf.
So they made an app for the three Bentayga owners who still use the Apple Watch?
Probably a lot more than three, Bentley have around 10,000+ preorders for this car, it will take almost two years to build them all.So they made an app for the three Bentayga owners who still use the Apple Watch?

Slowly being the operative word when discussing 3rd party apps.Even though this App applies to the minority of us who own a Bentley, we are slowly seeing what the Apple Watch can do. I have to say, it is kind of cool it control your climate controls and other functions.
Bentley trying to impress Jony Ive who owns several?
Yawn.
Who are you kidding?
This'll trickle down to other models of cards. Love to see this on a BMW or Porsche.
It will in due time. I actually called my BMW dealership after reading this article and spoke with the Service Manager. He said he attended a conference where BMW is working on a future App, unknown release date. He said software is the most problematic part when incorporation into the Electronic Control Module.
Hopefully this will be a possibility with my new 7 Series.

We are seeing a major paradigm shift (yes, a trendy term but accurate here) in the automotive industry from mechanical centric to software centric design. This is becoming a gear-head nightmare and a hacker wet dream. More and more operation of an auto is becoming software centric.
Electric vehicles are nothing but a computing platform with electric motors and actuators and user controls are inputs to the computer. I've always been concerned if there is a mechanical failsafe to steer and brake these vehicles if there was a total failure of the electrical system.
And if the driver seat is too reclined for passengers' liking, this can be adjusted from the app, too.
