Im Going for the Dell 2408WFP.

Not LED, but it has a S-SVA Display (Comparable to S-IPS, Better than TN) And is Colour Accurate, has tons of inputs, and is cheap.

The 24" ACD is too constricted input wise for me.

i myself bought a Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP and it's fantastic. plenty of inputs, an ABSURDLY bright screen (i have the brightness down to a quarter and it's still brighter than my macbook's screen on its brightest setting), great picture quality, etc etc etc.

i don't see what's so hot about LED backlights, i have seen the 2408WFP and the new ACD next to each other and i didn't really see much difference.

one thing to be noted about the Dell however, it's the colour gamut is quite large and might appear "oversaturated". i've quickly gotten used to it, but it's also pretty tricky to get the colour just right on it (as i type i think it's slightly too blue). you can turn the monitor's colour profile to the standard sRGB range if that's what you're used to, but i have to say it's so wonderfully vibrant i wouldn't go back now.

also any kinks you read about with the Dell have since been ironed out with the release of the A01 firmware release, which all new units now ship with.

To all those recommending Dell. Shame on you.

I say go with Apple. You can never go wrong with Apple. Best value of money and excellent piece of hardware with amazing customer service. Good luck finding that kind of service with Dell.

stop being a fanboy and be realistic. yes, cinema displays are great value for money if you can afford one. considering the 23" model has been put to bed and the new one is at present not compatible with mini-dvi connections, it doesn't leave others with a lot of choice.

have you ever owned a Dell monitor? they're some of the best around, and they have such confidence in them that they offer a 3 year guarantee out of the box (at no extra cost) and you can have it picked up by them and replaced for so much as a dead pixel. i've been living with macs and dell monitors for years and for my meagre student means there's no better alternative.

As for customer service, to be quite honest, i've been less than impressed with Apple over the years, whereas Dell has never let me down. Go figure.

If you have a mac then you're clearly not worried about the price. You want the best the money can buy for you and Apple is that best product out there. No one should buy Dell. They sell horrible PCs and displays. Why would you want to connect a PC display to your Mac anyway? That's blasphemy.

Macs should always be connect to Apple displays since they're the best!

I would hope most people are a little pragmatic than you. Yes Apple are good, but that doesn't mean they're the only solid option.

Dell have just busted out a new IPS panel, (Dell UltraSharp 2209WA 22-inch Flat Panel Monitor), which s pretty sweet.

blair.harringto; I've heard that HP monitor is exceptionally good. If I had the money, I'd be jumping at a chance to grab it.

Get over yourself, dude.

-I have a mac, and I'm still tight with money.
-If you want the best that money can buy you, then you should avoid Apple displays; all the ACD displays use a CCFL backlight, and the 24" LED has a glossy panel.
-Dell use the same display panels as Apple's ACD offerings. If their premium displays are horrible, so are Apple's
-A display isn't PC or Mac; its a method of showing what a computer is doing.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I'm getting the impression you haven't ever used a decent 3rd party LCD monitor. Do some research, loose the fanboyism, then come and give some opinions.

Personally, I would recommend against getting that monitor. A common problem with it is the uneven brightness, the left side of the monitor is significantly brighter than the right side (even at the lowest brightness level and even with the A01 version). The sRGB mode cannot be calibrated properly, not even with a hardware calibration device. The wide-gamut screen is more of a disadvantage than an advantage for most of the time, unless you enjoy oversaturated colors.

On the other hand, some people, like zaffle, appear to be happy with the screen, even though they don't seem to get the colors exactly right. So, if you care about color accuracy and consistency then don't get the 2408wfp but if you care about a lot of inputs and overly vivid and bright colors, it might be a screen you like.

Also, something I personally care less about, the input lag on the 2408wfp is apparently extremely high.

think iMac

I'm gonna throw a different suggestion out there, just to be difficult. :D

Ditch the mini. Buy a 24" iMac. I'll bet even money it's bright enough not to get severe glare. And if it does, spend $20 on some antiglare film and be done with it. You'll end up with a far better computer and better quality display than any comparably priced Mini + External will net you.

I'm going to vote with Demosthenes X here. The iMac sounds like an ideal choice for you. That's what I bought for home, and I know that I made the right decision. I thought about buying a mini+display, but I bought the aluminum iMac when it was first released, and I'm so glad that I went this way.

Good luck with your decision!

may i recommend looking at the BenQ FP241VW or FP241WZ or the FP241W (they're pretty much the same monitor).

I bought a 2408wfp myself and sent it back, the input lag was just TERRIBLE, bought the BenQ and never looked back. Search on Google for 2408WFP input lag and you'll see what i mean...

The 23" ACD from Best Buy is $900, not $800, that does not include tax, and is no longer shipping. You have to find a store that still has it in stock. Not really a solid option.

The Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP is an S-PVA retailing for $600 on Dell's site. That does not include tax or shipping. At that price, I'd get the HP LP2475w. A 24" IPS monitor retailing for $609 @ Amazon right now.

As for the Samsung monitor that caused this post to come to life again: it looks beautiful but it's a TN panel. IPS panels look so much better than TN panels, even if you don't do professional work. If you are considering spending $400 for a TN panel that looks that fancy, then why not pony up the extra cash and get yourself an IPS from HP? LED lighting is nice but you'll notice more from a better panel type than LED lighting.

If you can stretch for it, get the HP monitor. If not, I own a Samsung 2493HM, and even though it's a TN, I reckon its really good. It's leaps and bounds ahead of my MacBook panel, and it's several hundred dollars cheaper than the HP offerings. The only things which irritate me about it are its touch buttons, which are useless at night when you cant see the text above them, and the fact it has a 200x100 VESA mount, when other 24" panels have a 100x100, which meant I had to buy the more expensive arm.

Why is it so hard to find an IPS 24" 1920x1200 LED here? Does anyone know if its supply/demand or is it being phased out or is it like the FCC or something? Seems like a lot of people love it/want it but hard to find... or is it the price, because yes the Apple displays are expensive but I dont think there are even any precise displays like that for the PC are there?

It mustn't be cheap to make. Otherwise the market would be flooded with them and Apple wouldnt have charged 800 bucks to own one. You can get it refurbished for much lower now though.

Cheaper computer monitors seem to be heading toward 16x9. However, there are still 16:10 monitors, mostly higher-end.

Dell U2410 meets your requirements of 24" IPS 1920x1200. In fact, if I were to buy a monitor now, it would be that model.
