You really made a good choice in staying away from Booq. I loved my Booq bag a lot until the pocket seams started coming undone a little after a year of ownership.

Wrote in to customer service - they confirmed it was a warranty issue but would not fix it. They were courteous, but stood firm in agreeing only to credit me 50% towards a new bag, per their policy. For a bag that costs nearly $200, their "5 year warranty" is a total sham. They only cover you 100% for the first 6 months. I definitely won't be buying another of their bags.
Wow, thanks for posting this. Now I feel much better about getting a Brenthaven. I really wanted a Booq, but the more I dug the more I uncovered and the more skeptical I became. Just about all bag manufacturers offer a lifetime warranty these days. What's the deal with Booq's 5-yr warranty you ask? Seems they know their construction is inferior.

Shame, really. They have some great looking stuff. No looks can top quality and durability, however.

Tom Bihn was very tempting as well, but buy the time I had everything configured, it was a friggin' fortune. Maybe one day, but for now Brenthaven is where my money goes.

I was sorta confused. iThought when I read it, it was five years and then the percentages were if the bag had been discontinued?

Brenthaven quality, particularly for the price, is outstanding. I have a Brenhaven bag that I've used heavily for about ten years. The only real wear showing is on the zipper pulls and the D-rings and swivels, all worn but functionally fine. Otherwise no pilling, no threads showing, no tears, etc. The nylon looks practically new.

I'm ready for a Tom Bihn bag, and have been looking at them, thinking I'll get a Zephyr, which is slightly smaller than my Brenthaven.

I can understand the confusion - their policy makes it sound like the percentages only apply to discontinued products:
http://www.booqbags.com/helpdesk/warranty/100-Limited-5-Year-Warranty

Specifically : "In the event that the same or comparable bag does not exist, booq will issue a percentage of the defective bag's value in the form of store credit."

My bag was a Folee XM - where there was clearly a comparable replacement. They would not send me a new one. Instead, they wanted me to send mine in, where they would examine it and then they would credit me 50% towards the purchase of a new Folee bag.

I'll put in a vote for Outdoor Products Power Pack. It's slightly lesser known, but that means a little bit cheaper and I've found it to be lightweight, comfortable and it protects well. Granted, mine is now in for a warranty replacement, but with their lifetime warranty, it's not a huge deal.

I mean, it seems that if your model is discontinued and you are past said date, I would doubt that they could ever reuse any of the returned products, which might be why they are so quick to implement the fee.

i have a recon backpack by the north face and has worked fantastic for the last 5 years. i use it almost daily as a gym bag and laptop bag. used it for overnight hotel stays when luggage isn't necessary, 2 years of college, hiking, mountain biking.... still it perfect condition. not a single busted seam or broken zipper or tears. amazing quality.

mine looks different...older model, i would assume same quality

I just use an old Dell 17" laptop backpack I got 6 years ago.

I've got an incase neoprene sleeve and then put that in a padded compartment of a checkpoint friendly Victorinox backpack. I fly every week and love zipping through security, as well as not having dents in my laptop (last laptop got kicked by passenger in front of me and dented on the side). Good luck to you in whatever you choose

I'm glad somebody resurrected this thread! I'm looking at bags and was really liking what I saw from Booq. After your reviews and others', I will not be ordering from them! Thanks! :apple:
