Anyone do long 5-12 hour runs/sport activities? Have you found a band that is most suitable for these?

Shockingly, I like using the Milanese loop band for exercising. It’s breathable, unlike the regular sport bands. It’s metal, not fabric, so it doesn’t soak up sweat like the sport loop or braided solo loop. And since it uses magnets, you can make micro adjustments for the perfect fit, and it’s easy to adjust mid run if your arms start swelling from heat, unlike the Nike or regular sport bands.

Aerosmith. Many of their songs have perfect timing. I used to love listening to their music on the treadmill. I found my cadence was almost perfectly with their beat, and it's good music (IMO). YMMV

Oh, you mean 'watch band'? I really love my Nike black/volt band. I don't notice it, and the sweat is unnoticeable. The band is also strong enough to survive the onslaught of sweat and survives gloves, and being brushed against my 'attire' and all. It's not a warm as I ever thought it would be, and being a static band, not a stretchy mess, it stays put extra well. I was thinking of getting a stretchy band, but I wear my AW 'loose', but not 'too loose'. I HATE a band that bangs around on my wrist, and I hate a band that is 'tight'. I must be weird, because many of my friends wear tight bands all the time. *shrug*

And how many bands are out there? Wow... And how expensive are the braided elastic band? WOW! Very expensive. OUCH expensive...

Oh, I think I'm a member of 'Team Angry Music'. If the music isn't invigorating at the 2nd hour, and sprinkled in every couple of songs after, I just may fall asleep.

STP, Soundgarden, Audioslave, Primus, Green Day, Rage Against The Machine, etc...

My ultra days are over due to arthritic knees but I know I'd choose the Sport Loop for events > 24 hrs.

hmm, it dawned on me that I'd never use an Apple Watch in such an event due to battery life ... But I would use the Sport Loop for shorter events of several hours.

I had a Road ID that was a neoprene strap and 'velcro', and over time the 'velcro' just stopped working. I was disappointed. I supposed I could replace it, on that band, but it's a thin type that I can't find anywhere, so far. With my disappointment with that, I have a dim view of 'velcro' for other sports related stuff. I stopped using 'velcro' bike shoes for almost the same reason, and 'velcro' bike gloves that don't sew the 'velcro' on just end up delaminating and they're just not usable any longer.

Just adding this with my experience with 'velcro' and sports. There's nothing worse than having to futz with your kit during a ride/run/event...

I've been lucky, never had an issue with it with bands or bike shoes.

For ultra events, you use 2 Apple Watches, which I was doing for several years. lol

Oh, I knew someone who claimed to run ultra marathons with an Apple Watch, and a power brick, and a charging puck. I thought they were rather insane, but to each their own I guess.

My bike computer has an attachment for a 'battery pack' for 'those really long rides'. It's supposed to last something like 8 hours. I've come close, maybe 6, but that was excruciating... Rock on...

Yeah, that was a conversation I had at a club ride. 'Oh, I replace my shoes every year' someone said. I gulped. My bike shoes cost between $400 to $550. I ride those things until they literally fall apart. I use them on outside rides for at least two years, and then use them inside on the trainer for a few more years, and then they usually are just falling apart.

I have used Boa closures on all my shoes for the past 5 or 6 years. Boa rocks, 'velcro', not so much. Ratchet 'buckles' aren't a hit with me either. I've seen some Boa equipped running shoes. I actually own a pair, but don't run anymore.

But use what you like, and what works for you. (I did like 'velcro' bike shoes, and have an antique pair of Shimano MTB boots, and love them to death, but use them only once or twice a year.)

I agree with the velcro. The nylon looks like it maybe higher maintenance due to sweat?

I used a Velcro nylon band with an altimeter on a 34-day traverse of Denali and never had an issue (and even in 35 below zero we did sweat). I continued to use the same band on other trips.

And how do you get the sweat out of it? I sweat a lot, apparently, and have had sweat streaming out of my bike shoes on the trainer, and have had lines of sweat where the sweat was flung off, and my shoes end up drenched, Just trying to clean them up was so disgusting. Socks can be washed, but shoes can't. Could the Sport Loop band be washed? And washing 'velcro' is pretty funny. The hook side sticks to damn near everything. And, over time, washing can ruin the hook side.

I handwash mine.

I handwash mine.

I tried hand washing my bike bibs, and it just didn't go well. I ended up having some foam develop in those neither regions, and was so disgusted, my experiment was a total abject failure. Cleaning biking attire is an issue for most riders.

But anyway, the plastic bands don't absorb sweat, and laugh at everything I can throw at it. But you do you. I did buy one of those 'Sport Loop' bands, but just never use it. It just feels wrong. Like the Milanese loop bands, they look great, but they yank the hairs on my wrists and drive me nuts...

This one looks really god to me today...
