I ordered from Apple so I'm not familiar with BB reservations, but don't you have a receipt that has a time stamp that BB can pull up from the 15th to make a list?

You can match up your receipt to the list and have them set your phone aside.

It's not that much work to keep a customer happy. I would suggest it.

You're right, cbruce. When somebody made a "pre-order," they rang up the gift card, and the time is on the register receipt. Good idea.

I don't know what phone would be worth getting up in the middle of the night and waiting until the wee hours of the morning for. In a few months you'll regard it the same way many regard their old iPhones--just a functional device they aren't particulary passionate about.

but why does each person have to start a new thread? Aren't there 3 or 4 other "I will commit seppuku if I don't get my iPhone 4" ones around?

No reason for you to be a tool though. You could have skipped this thread all together.

The more I think about doing that the more I wonder. If they never had a list then when I was told I was in the low 20's on the preorder list (which apparently doesn't exist) the sales associate could have just been pulling that out of his ass. For all I know I could have been #100. Especially when I called them multiple times in the past week trying to find out EXACTLY where I was on the list and no one would tell me, because apparently it was too much trouble to flip through the preorder slips and find my name. The last time I called I was told that the preorder slips were locked in the cabinet and had been left in order with the first preorder on bottom and the last preorder on top.

So in the end forcing them to use the receipts to create a list could screw me over even more if the sales associate lied when he said I was in the low 20's. I'm probably better off getting there in the middle of the night and just waiting until 8AM. At least that way I can count the people in line if there already is one and know for sure if I'm going to get one or not.

Did they not note your "number" on the form they gave you, as well? The form they gave me which has my name, number, etc. and which iPhone I selected, has my pre-order number in a circle in the upper right hand corner...the guy made a copy of it before I left.

Again, this was a Plan B for me which I thankfully, no longer have to worry about.

I do wish you luck, though.

I could have you're right but you could have also skipped my post as well so I guess your point is moot. Anyhow back to the bitching about Best Buy.

I'm not trying to be a bitch, but when you are taking preorders for what looks to be the largest phone launch in history how do you forget to keep the preorders in order? I mean the majority of the word preorder is order.

And BTW I don't think there were any other threads about Best Buy doing something like this. Only threads about people saying they got a call and they didn't make the cut for the iPhone.

I believe you man and if it's any consolation I do feel for you because you did get a bit shafted. My comments were just taken out of context as I was just joking for the most part. Good luck and god speed tomorrow night.

Unfortunately no they did not. They didn't write anything on my receipt. They did write stuff on the paper that had the barcode they scanned, but all of that was whether or not I wanted the insurance and a screen protector and all that crap. They were too busy trying to make more damn money to keep the customers happy by taking note to what time the preorders were taken and in what order. The lady said that was the problem that they hadn't written the time on the preorder slips so they had no way to put them in order.

Wow...That's bad.

If I were you, I would call Best Buy Corporate NOW...1-888-BEST BUY...Tell the Operator you want to file a complaint against a store.

More often than not, you can get the Customer Care rep to call the store directly on your behalf...and the store will normally sit up and take notice quickly to try to resolve the situation...even a BADLY misbehaving Best Buy like the awful Store 1011 (Sepulveda and Rosecrans). :p

Good luck, man.

Awesome first post, but since I'm pissed, I just figured I'd let the schmucks (myself included) that preordered from Worst Buy know that my local store HAS their shipment in, and the only info the manager would relay to me as of 15 minutes ago is:

"We hope this isn't our only shipment before Thursday"

Oh. Oh, I do too. I do. And so does my AK47. Just saying. :D

I'm number 8, and number 9 on the list for 16gb. I'd have to say the outlook is bleak for many who made the Worst Buy mistake.

JUST as I was posting my last comment, my Best Buy called.

This store (Culver City-Westfield) is AWESOME. I told the lady upfront that I purchased through Apple.com and they can go to the next name on the list. I told her I will use the gift card on another purchase. (I'm saving gift cards and Reward Zone points for the 2nd gen iPad).

She was very nice...thanked me..and now somebody else who wouldn't have otherwise gotten an i4 from this BB will have the opportunity.

I should have asked her how many they got in, but I know they are probably super busy....and probably getting yelled at A LOT.

This particular BB is VERY well-run.

They just called me as they are calling everyone now and I spoke with the same lady haha. It took her a sec to realize I had just called a little while ago. This time she said that they will be handing out numbered tickets around 7 to those who are in line and that they will have different colored tickets for those wanting a 16GB or a 32GB. I told her that I would be there at there store waiting sometime around midnight and that I was very irritated about how this had been handled.

They were very inconsistent with preorders. She said some have a time written on the slip they kept and others have a copy of the receipt stapled to it, but the majority have nothing at all indicating the time of preorder and to be fair this is how they are doing it since they can't accurately compile a list.
