Unavailable

Looked for any 64 GB Wifis... a big fat UNAVAILABLE within a large search radius. Reminds me of the $50 off iPhones at Wal-Mart that no one could find in stock. :(

iPad "Sale?"

I also read all about the current iPad "sale" in anticipation of the release of a new model.

This is all nothing but classic "bait and switch" marketing.

I live in the Phoenix area. Walmart has not reduced pricing a penny contrary to published reports. Insofar as Best Buy is concerned, they go a step further: They advertise 3rd gen retina display ipad for $314 on their website. However, you cannot order online; you must go to a retail store. EVERY single retail store is "out of stock." In other words, not a single iPad is available for that price.

If it sounds too good to be true, it is.

2nd This

However, I did find a very small selection of 3rd gens with limited availability at some Target stores, including the one closest to my house. I was able to get the 32GB wi-fi only in white (they had a couple left in black as well), price matched with the Best Buy print-out from the web site down to $384.99 (Target had it listed at $449.99), plus 5% off for using a Target RedCard. I think that's even a little better deal than Target was offering back in early Feb (although they marked their 16GB models down to $299 then, but, again, it was impossible to find one in stock, and it had to be picked up in-store/no online orders as well).

Thanks to this tip I just got home from Target after a successful price match on a 32gb white wifi only* for the wife. I thought it would be tough, but it was one of the easiest things I've done. FYI - They had to look in the back as none of these are on display.

*I don't know if they just goofed, but when my wife opened it at home we discovered that they gave us an AT&T cellular model. We're a Sprint family (unfortunately) but I guess it doesn't hurt to have...

Still a much better deal than iPad 2 .. or even iPad mini.

Funny Apple does not sell iPad 3 as low end model and choose iPad 2 instead.
Not that iPad 2 is that bad, but for today's standard .. hmm..

So what did you do? Did you just print the screen showing the price or what? How do you prove that it's not an old price or something? Also did you order for in store pickup at target and then just bring the paper?

Not true. I put in every model (16/32/64) in black and white, and found a few at various stores within 50 miles from my home.

There aren't many available - but there are some.

My zip code is 14219. For example, there are 2 stores with White 64gb AT&T models available at 9:00am EST on April 5. (You get another $100 off that by signing up with AT&T). I'm sure there are other models in other zip codes.

It's just Best Buy's way of getting rid of the last few they have. There were a lot more different models available yesterday in my area. They're going quick.

Printed out the page from bestbuy.com for a 32gb white wifi only.
Called the Target to confirm stock I was seeing online.
Tried to put it on hold, but they wouldn't do it.
Went to the store and asked the elec. clerk to get one from the stock in the back and he took it up to the front for a price check. All the manager needed was the printout (although I suppose the website would have also sufficed).

Exactly what I did - hassle-free price match.

Mystery iPad 3 returns...

This isn't helping my resale value on my iPad3! I think it's strange that these came out of nowhere? You know when the 4 came out last fall it was taboo to speak of the 3. The lineup was iPad 4 (new, whatever), iPad 2, iPad mini..... It's like they just pulled all iPad 3 inventory and threw it in a time vault? I will say if you can get your hands on one of these for cheap, you are crazy not to upgrade from a 1 or 2. The retina screen is amazing!!!
Personally I am looking forward to the iPad 5!

Dang. Just got back from target, they didn't have any. :(

Just left Target - they had two in the size I wanted & refused to do the price match. They said they don't honor Best Buy's online deals - it has to be from a printed ad.

I even went back & showed him the posts from those of you who were successful but still no go.

Sorry to hear that... That doesn't make sense to me. How do they justify what is "a deal" versus what is just on sale? Isn't the point of price matching to match a competitor's price, which is more than likely a sale price.

From their website:

Price Match Guarantee

"If you buy a qualifying item at a Target store then find the identical item for less in the following week’s Target weekly ad or within seven days at Target.com, Amazon.com, Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, ToysRUs.com, BabiesRUs.com or in a competitor’s local printed ad, we’ll match the price. Price match may be requested at Guest Services prior to your purchase with proof of current lower price or by bringing in your original Target store receipt and proof of the current lower price."

Did you print the page from the normal Best Buy site or the clearance site? I used the former and got no push back. It may just depend on who you talk to - if you're not discouraged, I'd recommend going back during a different shift and trying again!

I got it from the normal site. I've thought about going back maybe tomorrow since I'll be in town anyway.

That's a good one. If I end up going back, I'll bring that printed out.

Sweeten the pot!

Today's Target ad (with sales prices good April 7-13) says "free $30 gift card when you buy any iPad 2 or iPad with Retina display." I'm headed back tomorrow to try for the super combo!

This. It's funny how quick people are to call bait and switch. There are 18 different models (2 carriers plus wifi, 3 sizes, 2 colors) out there and 1000+ stores. Probably more than a million dollars of dead stock inventory sitting in stores throughout the country, seems like a justifiable reason to put them on the website to me. Doesn't mean they were trying to be shady, it just means that there are iPad 3's in stock at a Best Buy somewhere when it went up. I know exactly why they didn't offer them for purchase online, when everyone tries to buy the 2 they have in stock they have no way to limit it at exactly 2 as the orders come in. So they take them off the web. Same thing happened back when the Wii's were selling like hotcakes during the holidays 3 years ago and made people go into the store.

To bad I didn't see any deals like that on amazon. Sucks because I have like over $150 in a gift card oh well

Aaaaand it's gone

The discounted prices are no longer advertised at Best Buy (as of Sunday, 7 Apr 2013) - 32gb wi-fi back up to $549.99.

So the best deal now is at Target - $449.95 (same price as the 16gb model at Best Buy), plus a $30 gift card (and an extra 5% off if you use a RedCard). Not great, but definitely not bad.
