Best Buy Expects 'Minimal Inventory' of iPhone 4 on Launch Day

I just returned the Best Buy GC that I got for my iPhone 4 pre-order. It was no problem.
I ordered through Best Buy as a last resort, after AT&T, the Apple Store, and Apple's 800 number all crapped out. At this point, I wouldn't be expecting an iPhone on Thursday even if I HAD ordered online/in store. At least I can count on Best Buy to NOT cancel my order. God forbid I don't get an iPhone 4 on launch day... But I mean, really, is anyone expecting to anymore? So much doubt has been placed that I'd be amazed if I EVER got one.
I work there. I know my return policy.
Normal giftcard purchases are non-returnable. If you pre-order something and they give you a gift card you can return it for a full refund.

I pre-ordered at my local Best Buy, called to confirm, and the nice gentleman told me I was the fifth he was going to call in the next hour (after 2pm Pacific) to set up an appointment for me anytime in the morning of the 24th.
I'm fortunate, but the assistant I spoke with when I first got on the phone told me they were getting 30 phones in but had 62 pre-orders.
I remember getting to the store after noon, probably 12:30pm.
So yeah, they suck, but not in this case.

Has anyone else gotten a call from their Best Buy. I haven't gotten one yet, but I'm going to call up there by 12pm if I still haven't gotten one. I'm #10 on the list so hopefully I'll get lucky and get a phone tomorrow.

Waiting on my call as well... That mobile dude has gotten a call from me 2 times this week as he told me the manager was supposed to be calling pre orders today.... If I don't get a call he'll know me by heart by the time I'm done... Don't take my money, promise me an iPhone, swear you'll call, then take it all back...

yeah i got a call today around 11 am eastern time, and my store said they only received a handful of iphones, and i was number 11 in the pre order line. i asked how much a handful meant, and they said less then 10, and that i would b in the 2nd wave which could take as long as another 10 days!!!! buut he said i would b guaranteed one. so im prolly gonna try to find some elsewhere
I called Monday and talked to the mobile guy and he told me that they have 40 units on order (whether that is true or not is still be to be seen) and that they stopped their pre-orders @ 33... From what he told me is that they might open early but he wasn't sure... My question when I call today or if I should get a call would be to find out if I couldn't come in at a later time to avoid the mess and pick it up when I'm able... If I have a pre-order I'm not sure why I would have to come in and line up... Makes no sense to me...
At my store they are suppose to be calling to set up appointments so that people will not have to wait in line. I'm sure they'd let you come later in the day if you wanted to.
No idea what they will do here... I'm in Georgia and not sure how these stores will be..... I'm waiting till about 2 or 3 my time and if I don't get a call by then I'll be calling them and see what I can get out of them...
Well I just called my Best Buy and the lady said someone was in the back making the phone calls right now to people. I asked her how many they had gotten in and she had no idea. So lets hope for the best that I get a call today.
yeah id give em a call now they probably dont have much, from what they told me only major stores in big cities r getting alot if ur in a small town ur BB, like mine wont have much

Got my call. It was a bad one. Apparently I wasn't #10 on the preorder list like the lady told me. I was actually #21. She said they didn't get enough in and that another shipment will not be in until the 29th.
Just got off the phone with BB... I'm not sure what number I am in the list but I did speak to the manager of the mobile dept and he said he's just about to start making the phone calls... He's waiting to see if there are any other trucks coming in... So far the have 12: 16's and 2?!?!?! 32's I know I ordered one of the 32's so I'm afraid I may get screwed on this and not in the way that's preferred... So now I wait... But if something happens then I guess I just won't get one this week and will have to wait... I think if the unlucky ones that don't get theirs tomorrow they need to do something like a free case... lol
I am so sorry about your bad news, that's just not right... With all the phones they've sold you'd think they'd have had enough to go around the way it should have been done...
