I got tired of waiting and decided to just get a Mac Pro. I found out that none of the Comp USA locations near me have any in stock(according to their website). Also, the entry level MBP and the MBs are $100 off-these are either out of stock or in low supply. Is this a hint that new gear is ready for purchase?
Looks like I'm playing the waiting game again...

i work at a futureshop...and there is a couple of boxes(around 4) that say (brown ones with apple stickers..(barcode etc) that say "do not sell before 02/22/07...so maybe something is being annouced (or they are just iTV and aiport etc) the boxes are the size of maybe 2-3 ps3 boxes together...

The PS3 box looks like it might roughly be the size of a 17" MBP box(is that about right?). So maybe new MBPs. Or one could probably fit about twelve Mac mini boxes in a box that size, so maybe its new Mac minis! They need an update the most at this point in time, IIRC. Oh, one could very easily think of so many things to put in there...maybe its a new ultraportable. Oh, so many possibilities.

i thought the 17" mbp box is much ... thinner, perhaps it's mini... but i was hoping for mac pro :(

whether a product is in stock or not is no indication of product update, ever.

Thanks for the reply. The combination of out of stock MPs and discounts on the 'books had me wondering. I don't recall ever seeing sales on Apple hardware that wasn't refurb'd/open box or EOL.

so i kinda opened one of the box up..a little bit when no body was looking and its FULL of :apple:TV! and the other one has some black macbooks with styrofoam..other 2 i dont know!

In that article, one guy made the comment, "I'd rather them not sell macs... the staff there are idiots."

I kind of agree with this. Not necessarily that they are idiots, but in my experience with Best Buy, they just don't get very good training. Especially when it comes to Macs.

When I worked at Best Buy, they had me train the entire computer department on Macs and other Apple products. Total idiots.

Yeah, I agree. I avoid the sales people at BestBuy like I'm getting paid to do it. If I go to Best Buy with a friend or relative, I go only on the condition that they will shun all the employees. I can't stand arguing with employees over technology that I know more about, and it pains me even more to stand there in silence while listening to them make up BS about whatever product they're currently getting a sales incentive on.

For that reason, I've never even gone into the computer section of a Bestbuy. I know I would want to kill myself -- or one of them.

Of course, I'm sure our new member BestBuyBoy is a great sales person :) I just hope he sticks around even after the initial PR campaign.

Guess Best Buy wants us to put on makeup eh?

I've a Macbook and iMac in the sales paper but its sold only in select locations.

Nice. I was thinking the same thing. I think their color is Golden Shimmer.

Whatever happened with this?

ummm...

It's now February 23rd.

What happened ?

I'm sorry but I find that very hard to believe that your store has the :apple: TV on display and is selling them NOW.

Is Future Shop the Canadian store?

If it is the online store doesn't even list it.

Future Shop is the Canadian Worst Buy

I would like to set EVERYONE straight by saying that the Future Shop guy and the Best Buy guy all full of crap, and they are feeding you full of crap. I am not sure if they are just looking for attention or what.

I work for CompuSmart, who is Canada's largest Apple Reseller (larger than Future Shop for Apple products), and there has been no set ETA on Apple TV. Never in a million years would an Apple reseller receive a new line like the Apple TV before Apple would begin shipping to their customers.

Anyone in the business knows that the quickest way to receive a new product from Apple is to, most times, order direct, as there can be a 2-3 delay before the store receives them. Unless it is an OS release, that is different.

I have been told that March 23 is roughly when Apple TV will be released, not any earlier.

You know, after all the trouble I've had with my mini, I went into Best Buy this evening to look at a Vista PC (control your gasps, people ;) ) and the funny thing was, when I told the salesperson why I was there, he told me that he only buys Macs for himself and that I should really try to work through the problems I'm having with Apple.

Honestly, yeah, the folks in the computer section are way too busy, there aren't enough of them to go around, but when you get one, they usually really do try, really do take time to answer your questions (if they can) and sometimes go above and beyond (like the Geek Squad guy today who tried to test the RAM in my Mac Mini at no charge because the local Apple retailer wanted to charge me for diagnostics).

Just my .02 on Best Buy, FWIW, probably about .02 :) .

apple

My local Apple store thinks that they are going to get the :apple: TV in late next week.

That is from one of the managers, a personal friend, who is guessing and doesn't know for sure, until they find out from corporate later this week.

My only good experience from Best Buy was buying a computer on black friday. Actually it sucked that day, went to two Best Buys that day, and never got decent service or the laptop that they told us was in stock at the 2nd store. Then 10 days later the laptop we purchased was on sale for less, so we got the price difference. $165 plus a free (junky) lexmark printer.

c'mon, i wanna hear back from the dude who claims to have peeked into boxes of apple tv's :D . WTF?!? I'm all for misdirection and chicanery, but it has to be funny, or clever, or...something, at least.

I can't stand arguing with employees over technology that I know more about, and it pains me even more to stand there in silence while listening to them make up BS about whatever product they're currently getting a sales incentive on.

The sad part is they don't get any incentives at all on sales. No bonuses or anything. I am speaking as someone who worked on the sales floor and also as a Manager for them. ( I am now in a much better place) Sales reps that come in can't even offer them kickbacks or rewards for selling their products.

Instead of taking th enormal approach people have here and saying their entire staff is terrible I will say this. What it is is too much roll over on staff. They pay too little to employees with no incentives and people work there for a bit and move on. However you deffinitely do get some guys that do know their stuff, but I think that really holds true for almost most large retailers.

Kevin

Unlike the BestBuyGuy, and the Future Shop guy (who were talking about out the rear), I will once again say that no one should expect the AppleTV in stores before the end of March. I have looked into our shipping and the ETA is March ending...

Some might think I am full of it, but just trust me.
