Best Buy has an option of buying something online, and picking it up within hours at a local retail store. Microcenter also has this, as does Apple, and most likely a few other Brick and Mortar stores

They pull it, and you pick it up at the counter.

Now, it's possible that this will not be an option with the iPad, for whatever reason, but it is an option for other things

I know all this, because I've done it myself many times. Best Buy tells you to wait for an email letting you know the item is ready for pickup. These emails usually take a few hours (during business hours), for you to receive them after you pay online.

How long does best buy take to ship orders? I was going to wait today and order one online. What shipping service do they use? Plus, how fast is it usually?

Can I do in store pickup if I purchase it online at 12est?

That's the big question. I'm hoping so because I need to order from Best Buy & I can't be there at 8AM. I'm going for the 128GB AT&T Space Gray version so I hope there won't be a huge call for those & if I can't order online for in store pickup, I'll go by the store after work.

I can't say many stores running out of this version so you shouldn't have any real issues.

I went to my local best buy to inquire with a friend who works in the tablet department. He said they have a ton of stock and don't forsee running out anytime soon. He said they would be doing the in store pick up...but obviously that that with a grain of salt. But the stock looks promising.

I have an apple store right next to the bestbuy. I am leaning towards best buy, more low key.

If Best Buy has lots of stock, and it seems Apple has lots of stock.... which is a better place to get it? I am thinking Best Buy will not have as many fanboy types?

Then again, Apple is AWESOME on returns. Now that I think about, I am hitting the road in a few days and would be nice to just stop into an Apple store if I have an issue. With multi-millions of these units out there, some are sure to have some problems.

Best Buy might not have as many fanboy types but they also won't have as many people dedicated to selling the iPad as an Apple store will have.

Wait, where was it confirmed that in store pick up will go up for Best Buy tonight? Normally they don't do that with these Apple launches....

It hasn't been confirmed, but on September 20th, some Best Buy stores allowed in store pick up of the iPhone 5S when they were ordered online that same day.

Two friend's of mine walked into BB the afternoon of the 5S launch and they both got one. One VZW, one ATT. No waiting or ordering ahead.

I'd like to get an iPad through BB but I have to be in to work at 7am tomorrow. Not sure if they would still have any around 5pm, or if you could order ahead and they would hold it that long.

I will try to price match Target $479 website price. Cannot hurt to try but if you preorder more than likely you may not be able to but you could try at customer service when you pick it up though.

Go to bestbuy.com and read low price guarantee.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Global/Low-Price-Guarantee/pcmcat290300050002.c?id=pcmcat290300050002

It is not a product that qualifies BUT BB may want your business anyway.

They'll match it, but Wally World doesn't seem to be reducing the higher priced models :(

They confirmed to me that you can't order online and pick up in store tomorrow.

I'll give you a 10% finders fee on the $20 savings. What's you're paypal address? ;)

Also those of you with the Target RedCard will get another 5% off, so that takes off almost $44! Not bad, and it beats trying to mail order to save on sales tax.

Combine that with the inventory checker (http://checkinventory.site44.com) and you can quickly sweep who has stock in your area. This doesn't work yet since they are not for sale, but should work tomorrow.

16 GB White iPad Air is item # 14423830 - http://checkinventory.site44.com?site=T&sku=14423830

I was told the EXACT opposite by the local best buy manager

Shrug. I went into a store and asked, and also asked their online chat people and was told no in-store preorders. Best Buy never knows what they are doing, so I'm not surprised.

I'm showing up at 8am anyway, I asked the person if I did in store pick up could I just swing by at 8am and pick it up, she said no and I still have to wait for the email from them that it's ready for pickup. I have places to be by 9am, so I guess it's the line for me
