The point we are missing is Best Buy sucks cuz they know jack about Apple. They will have some sucky monitor, if one at all, hooked up to it with some piece of sh*( keyboard and mouse. And of course, since their "computer experts" already have a hard enough time knowing anything about Winblows, i hardly think sales will boost at all when they sell them in their stores. Mac needs to send its own ppl there and have it's own lil display with mac things, and also should have fliers on their iMacs,PowerMacs and laptops, so at least they could get info on it. APPLE.. PLEASE SEND YOUR OWN PPL!!!

Exactly. You have to crawl on your knees practically to see the iPods--it's NOT a display case, just a deep shelf with locked glass doors and no lights OR signs, located on the floor UNDER a real lighted display of other products! And the iPod boxes (no units out of the box) are shoved to the back. You'd think it was just storage for employee supplies or something, and not even realize they HAVE iPods except for the price tags (the only things visible).

I've had good experiences at CompUSA (real Apple staff), but not at Best Buy.

I realize the Mini is a unique case, and I hope Apple has a way to make this work. If Best Buy manages to sell iPods despite keeping them hidden, then maybe they can sell Minis...

Same at several of my local BB stores. They're all locked up in a case. And they're not even price tagged.

Yeah, I too wonder how the minis will sell. Most, if not all, of the employees at my BB stores are PC heads... know virtually nothing about Macs. The iPods sell well there, but that's mainly thanks to Apples advertising. They mostly sell themselves.

my local best buy has changed their iPod display so that all their MP3 players are locked on a table similar to the digital camera display, a bit more effective

i havent seen any minis, but ill be sure to check it out the next time i go, wonder if this means that Apple Software will be available at Best Buys too?

Mine too, the iPod Photo and iPod are both out there for people to play with.

That is strange how Best Buy can sell a product behind a glass case and locked with no employee selling it. I always comment to employees that they should just sell everything behind a locked glass window. I hope the Minis have Tiger on them and they have 512 MB standard before going to Best Buy.

I can't wait

I can't wait to see the numbers on the Mini this June at the developers conference. I'm sure Jobs will update us on how it's selling. Exponentially I'm sure.

I agree that the MacMini could be a boon to apple; we put one in our kitchen hooked up to the new Sony 17" Widescreen monitor/TV so we have both computer and TV functionality. They should display this set up; the Mac mini is on its side behind the TV and is very discreet. We pull out the BT keyboard and mouse when we need it.

I hope that someone will have the sense to stock minis with the BT/AE option installed 'cause that really adds to the stealth form factor/function. The computer boots/wakes to iCal with all of the kids' playdates/soccer games on the screen, with Stickies on the side with the current shopping list.

And yes, Tiger/512 makes a lot of sense as well for the stock items.

It's a fabulous form factor; they need to market the heck out of it and you'll start to see a significant increase in Market share.

you know what that is one of the coolest things i have heard done with a mini... congrats on your brilliance, gave me a smile and makes me wish i had a mini! :)

I haven't been to Best Buy in a while. If the reports are indeed correct, this will surely help Apple sell more Mac minis, which is good news for Apple.

Not really due to the fact you have many non-apple using people selling the mini, so these people will tend to steer people toward what they know, pcs, and their fact that there is so much more compatible software (from a pc selling perspective) and, as with the last time Best Buy attempted in selling apple products, the minis will be largely ignored in some corner of the store until the point comes that best buy stops carrying apple computers...... again

Even if that's the case, it won't matter - any sale of a Mac mini (even if it sells itself) helps Apple in the end.

I live next to Best Buy, but I think the idea of selling Macs will not be so good. People will just be like, "I can get a PC for much lower price with even more features, a monitor, blah blah,..." and so forth. I think they should put at least some other Mac on there, I don't know why, but I think it would show more of what Apple has. Hopefully, these Mac Minis will bring more profit to Apple, and it won't turn out like last deal they had with Best Buy. At the Best Buy I go to, they have every version of the iPod on display by the other MP3 players and cell phones. I do remember seeing the 1st gen. iPods being locked under the displays when Best Buy first had them.

How many ads have you seen for the mini on TV? How many millions of $$ do you think Best Buy will spend to promote the mini in their stores?

If the answer to both questions is zero you now know the effect this will have on Apple. Besides, will selling a couple of minis more a month help you get a better OS, or a new G5? -- no.

I like my mini -- but it is not the best Apple Computer I've owned (I'd say it's a tie between my 8600 and my Apple 2e). It's been years, and years, since Apple properly promoted its computer line. Putting minis in Best Buy is a very minor event.

yea at the best buys in metro detroit, the 1G and 2G ipods were in the glass cases but then the 3G and 4G have been on display next to all the other crap mp3 players and cell phones. so i guess the ipod REALLY took off when the 3G came out so i guess it might of helped them a little to have them out in the front of the store and not in the back in glass under routers :D

It seems to me the real news here is confirmation that Tiger should be shipping by month's end.

Yeah, I'm running Jaguar here and I'm dying to upgrade. Expose, Spotlight, Dashboard, iLife '05-compatible... I wonder how long until the university store gets their copies (Apple Stores don't do education discounts on software).

And I have a feeling this will cost more than $129 ($93 edu) based on the hype and the fact that iLife '05 got a price boost. But I won't complain. I'm dying here...

The Best Buy I go to has their iPods out in the open, but by the cell phone and PDA section.

I hope that's a universal change--I'll have to check my local stores. Sounds much better. Before, even when you asked for an iPod, you were directed to that floor-level locked cabinet. That's IF the salesperson was aware of them existing at all :)

Mac Minis can be hooked up to the displays and keyboards they already sell, so I can see it working out--if they resist their habit of hiding Macs and telling people not to buy them.

I also learned that they're fairly incompetent there at Best Buy, based on how many times I had to be put on hold for them to figure it out.

This is why I think this is actually a bad thing for Apple. Their product will not be represented well at all. All the employees at Best Buy are ignorant about what they sell.

/no longer shops there.

What is odd,

I was at the Richfield "Flagship" store the other day. No Mini to be found. I guess since we have 2 Apple Stores surrounding the Flagship Best Buy, we don't need to sell the Mini at that location?

Odd..

Wow, an analyst said so, I'm a believer now? I guess next he's gonna tell us that it isn't gonna be out on April 1st.

Who woulda thought by the end of April? Total surprise!

So does this mean we'll get an official announcement from Apple tomorrow? Maybe? Hopefully? I have $130 burning a hole in my pocket just waiting for that pre-order... :D
