Not if they want something immediately. Returning something, doing without and holding onto the cash, or going to an Apple store to do the purchase takes effort, and at least partly deflecting that could help stem the tide a little.
This is the same reasoning for mail-in rebates: if you just markdown the price in-store, then every item you sell is at the lower price. But if you make the buyer jump through any hoops, there's a significant percentage who just won't do it, and that's kept money.

They do show up in a search. Having said that, I'm not sure how obsolete that link is supposed to be as it is what you get when you click on the iPads in their weekly ad. They really ought to fix it.
