Hello Everybody!!

I'm Italian and I'm working in the USA for Carnival Cruise onboard the ship and I'd like to ask you some advices.
Finally I'm moving from Windows to Mac and I'm interesting to buy a new mac book pro 17".
I would like to know if is better buy the laptop from Best Buy Retail Shop or Apple Store in New Orleans.
Sorry for my english and thanks a lot!

Go buy it at the Apple Store. The employees there actually know what they are talking about, and will be able to answer any questions that you have. The people at best buy are usually not too knowledgeable about those computers and it won't do you any good going there versus the official Apple Store. I personally wouldn't buy anything Apple at Best Buy.

I'd vote for the Apple Store, too.

Also, remember that Apple's extended warranty (AppleCare) works internationally on laptops, so if you go back to Italy and need service, you should be OK.

Bestbuy

If you buy a warranty go with best buy. They have a warranty that covers accidental. If you crush it by accident they will cover it. Ask a bestbuy rep about it. It is worth the price. Wish i would have done it.

Can I configure in Apple store New Orleans the mac book pro?

they have i believe 2 models of the 13in macbook, an 2 or 3 models of the 15 in macbook pro, an 1 or 2 of the 17 inch
you can not customize it in the store only online

The only thing the Apple Store can do is " Memory Upgrades ".

As for a buying location ....

Apple Store would be the place. My experience is that they are more knowledgeable about the product.

I am not sure what Best Buy may be telling you as to 'configuring', but if Apple Store cannot do it .... I wouldn't think Best Buy is authorized either.

I can't buy Online because I need tax refund ,I'm working in louisiana and it is tax free:)

As much as I should promote BestBuy here, I agree with the masses, anything Apple related I get from the Apple store (heck I used to drive 70 miles just to go to one before they opened one down the road)!

Not only do they know exactly what they are talking about they are also amazing at a consultative sale and you get an excuse to go into the Apple store ;)

thank you Nash!

Apple Store.

I read a post here that one time a gut at Crap Buy sold a customer a graphics card saying that he could open up the iMac and put the card in.

And another where an employee said that the pre installed iLife was illegal and he/she would have to pay $80 to get a legal copy.

The people at Crap But have no idea what they're doing.

Yeah Apple Store wins hands down. Last time I was in Best Buy, there was a family asking about creating a home network, and the sales guy said that they had to get a wireless network because you can't buy wired network routers these days.

Yeah....ok....he didn't look on the shelf below.

Anyway ;)

Both stores are staffed by idiots who think they know what they're talking about.
Agreed. Just go to whichever store is closer. Quite frankly, many of the employees at my local apple store creep me out whenever I go in there to drop something off. I tend to avoid retail stores by buying online, but as that isn't an option for you, I'd suggest that you go to whichever location is closer as neither will produce a significantly better experience than the other.

If you know exactly what you want, then the stupidity of Best Buy employees shouldn't be an issue. I, however, prefer the environment of the Apple Store :D ("It's so sterile!")
