Yes! I'm buying an iPhone weeks before it's outdated.

Some people who are aware that it will cost an arm and a leg to buy the "updated" iPhone may have already decided they prefer to spend the extra hundreds of dollars/euros on something else, given that the current iPhone will satisfy all of their needs quite easily. For an increasing number of people, what their smartphone can do for them takes priority over hoping people will notice that they now own Apple's take on the Galaxy S8 in that short window of "me first".

Why not buy? Its a lot cheaper than buying this time last year and not everyone has to have the latest device. The perception is you need to upgrade yearly... that's old thinking, you don't have to that anymore. You can easily wait a year, two or even 3 at this rate.

And save the money for something that may really need to be upgraded or perhaps a nice vacation long overdue.

Will it have a discount on the iPhone 8?

If it's overpriced, I see discounts coming sooner rather than later at BB and other places (with the exception of the Apple Store).

I'm with you, friend.

In fact, I am even thinking about keeping my iPhone 6s Plus for at least two more years. It's a work phone that gets a lot of use and still works great, so why upgrade?

Each year the reasons seem less compelling.

Same here. Coming from a 4S going to the 6S Plus was great for my eyes:)

The entire smartphone segment has matured to a point where there isn't much more that can be done.
Sharper resolution , faster processor, more memory etc.. fine, but do I need it?

Form factor, who cares ? (Sorry, some MR people do (plus camera bump), but they must not have any other real issues in life)

Never had a problem waiting until there were enough available phones when I was ready to buy. So, 8S plus or even 9S Plus.

To save money, I always buy the top shelf max GB model, which then over the years drops into mid-range. Time to buy again when it becomes the entry model.

With Apple's stingy GB policy it will be a while before iPhones start at 128GB.

Does anyone know how the sale works for iPhone? I need to upgrade my wife kid and me.. all still on iphone6. This might be the time to upgrade all of us if the deal is right. I was kinda waiting until the 8 but could be swayed for the right price. Like iPhone 7+ 128 gb is normally $869 but now $569 during the sale? Seems too good but idk how these sales go. And I haven't bought a phone since sept. 2014 w/ the 6+. Thx!

MacBook-wise (12") it looks like they're clearing out the older models with the $500 off, and some new high-end models lesser discounts.

On the iMac's it seems like they are basically dumping the older ones as well. The latest models are just $100 off. Better off going refurbished for an extra $100+ off.

I believe last week they were $200 off.

Apple Smart Keyboard for the 10.5 iPad is $10 off the retail price. Not a great sale, but it's a little off a relatively recently released accessory.

The biggest discounts I've seen on iPhones during this sale are for Sprint. Haven't found any $300 off ones yet but see a few $200 off.

You laugh, but I have a friend who does this every two years. Doesn't care about the newest stuff, just wants to save money. They're not even old. Some people just don't care like we do.

I don't see anything wrong with this.

My mother is buying one this weekend, upgrading from her iPhone 6 16GB, to a 7 with a larger storage. I let her know that a new iPhone should be out in a few months, but she already knew that. She is just doing it for the savings.

Some people care more about getting a good deal verses having the latest tech.

I couldn't resist: between the sale, student coupon, and trade in value on my 2015, I just upgraded to a 2017 15"!

On this note, the open box deals (when available) are also a great buy. The open box Smart Keyboard I bought for my iPad Pro is holding up great.

The deals were not NEARLY what was advertised. A 15" MacBook Pro (latest version) was only $200 off (not the advertised $500). iPhone 7 Plus was $100 off, but Best Buy's price was already $100 more than the Apple store, so this was no discount at all! I don't know if this was bait and switch advertising by Best Buy or poor reporting by MacRumors.

Emphasis mine. I'm more bothered about the sale prices not all carrying over until Sunday on the MBP 13" base. But that one might not have been part of the 50-hour event.

You aren't wrong about the iPhones though. I hope nobody fell for that.
