In the U.S., the base price (excluding sales tax) of a 14" MBP M3 is $1,599. The base price (excluding sales tax) of a 14" MBP M3 Pro is $1,999. That's only a $400 difference, not a $900 difference.

In Sweden, the base price (excluding VAT) of a 14" MBP M3 is 19,121 kr or around $1,711 USD. The base price (excluding VAT) of a 14” MBP M3 Pro is 23,921 kr or around $2,141 USD. A difference of $430 USD.

I'm guessing art of the difference is to cover currency fluctuations and the rest to cover any additional warranty requirements in Sweden. I am not familiar with their laws but if it is the same as the EU mandate Apple can simply add teh estimated costs of warranty repairs to the base price to cover the longer period.

If you know any Apple Employee, you can get 15% for friends and family. That should be the best at the moment.

Man I’m in such a bind. I’ve got an ailing 2015 MBP with a puffed up battery barely kicking and not sure about pulling the trigger yet considering a potential MBP redesign next year. I mostly just use it for running a desktop hifi setup. I’d really like to invest in a MBP again for the long term but am inclined to wait. In the meantime, maybe just something a bit less broken to run my audio rig?
What makes you think MBP is getting a redesign next year? Apple has generally kept MBP in the same casing for 4-5 years. I wouldn’t expect to see a new design until 2025 at the earliest (more likely coinciding with the switch to an OLED display in 2026)

Apple Slicon: 2021+
Touchbar: 2016-2021
Retina: 2012-2016
Unibody: 2008-2012
G4/Intel: 2003-2008

If you’re worried about whatever you purchase becoming dated, just get the M2 MBP from the refurbished store. With the money you save, you won’t feel as guilty upgrading again in a few years.

Direct family members of military/veterans as well. Just have to be verified through IDme.

Good point. You can get an ID.ME military signup as a service member, retiree, veteran, military spouse, military family member (father, mother, son, or daughter) or surviving spouse.

To get discounts on most products you need to order online but everything is discounted with very few exceptions.

It'll probably be a couple more years before a redesign. At least two if I had to guess, but I could see it being 3.

If the battery is puffed up, you probably should replace it with something else immediately.

I'm sure the M4 will just be an optimization of the 3NM before Apple introduces 2NM M5 in 2025.
I think we will see 2 more cycles of N3. N3E next year and N3P in 2025. N2 production is starting late 2025 like N3B production starting in late 2022. So products will appear only in 2026/

Just in time for my upgrade from my M1.

To me, Apple’s event last night seemed like a last minute attempt to save Mac sales for the year and Best Buy’s early discount seems to help prove my opinion.
Best Buy offering a small sale price doesn't prove your point at all. Best Buy and Amazon have sales all the time and this isn't really much of a sale when a person has to pay $50 for a membership. In that scenario, the savings is really less than $50 depending on sales tax.

I also feel like they have to put a lot into the event and getting the computers created/tested and ready to ship. Do I think they want to boost sells, of course, Apple is a business. New Macs right before Christmas is smart. They should have included new Air Pod Max as well.

I agree that now is a good time to have released the base 14" MBP etc. There are a lot of people that don't need much nor do they really care about all the nerd specs. They just want something affordable that will work when it is turned on. And most of the time, that is basic tasks like web, mail, FaceTime, family budget, pictures and simple spreadsheets. I think the new 14" MBP will sell well during the holiday season.

my sibling knows an Apple engineer and can get 20% off through him but it can't be on new released items. Has to be a few months old.

I must say, and tell me if I'm being too optimistic here, but I feel like we're headed in a good direction price-wise with deals like this. Having sales safeguarded behind memberships is a good way to promote engagement (dare I say trust?) between buyer and seller, and cut down on opportunistic eBay resellers sapping store stock. Having a paywall to the deals could enable Best Buy and other retailers to give us deeper discounts over time, and possibly show the beleaguered concert ticket industry a way forward from the dynamic pricing and fee fatigue its been saddled with, trying to keep revenues where they need to be. With Best Buy now, I feel like I'm actually in a mutually beneficial and developing relationship with that store. I would love to be able to say that about more of the corporations that are such an important part of my life.
That is a weird way to justify your membership purchase.

Better solution is for everyone to simply stop buying from scalpers.

I'm tired of membership deals. They're just another way to suck revenue out of customers unless the pricing, across all product lines, is discounted, IMHO. Warehouse clubs do that and at least offer savings rates than just special discounts.

$100 isn't much and after member ship it's $50. Most people would be better off buying it at a store like B&H and with their card getting the tax rebated.
And applecare + is included at no additional cost.

Did you take into account the nature of getting AppleCare included from being a member. You may or may not get that, but I do. I wouldn’t spend extra money, I actually save a whole lot more.

True, at the $179 level; but you have to buy everything from Best Buy to really benefit. If you do that and buy enough stuff each year it can be a good deal. However, you have to renew annually so if you don't it's more expensive, for example; if you only buy a MacBook 3 years is $410 vs around 270 for AC+ from Apple; or $179 vs 99 year to year. It also appears, from BB T&C, you only get 2 years of AC+ with a membership at 340 vs 270 for 3 years.

As with everything, TOC is what counts. It will work for some and be more expensive for others. Everyone needs to decide based on their buying habits.

Outside of the iPhone, I buy all of my apple stuff from Best Buy to take full advantage of the AppleCare; it includes non-Apple stuff as well, such as Bose, PS and B&W. You can definitely make it worth it.

No doubt. Buying habits determine the value, my CC offers an additional warranty to I pay with it.

Oddly enough, I 'd expect the iPhone to be teh item, beyond a watch, most likely to get damaged and need AC+.

I used buy a lot of stuff from Costco until they eliminated extended warranties if you use their card.

Kids don't touch my iPhone; that's the only reason it's never needed Apple Care.

I was more questioning where they got the $900 difference for the U.S. prices. By my calculations, the pre-purchase tax price difference between the two 14" MBPs in question are practically the same in USD for both countries ($400 USD in the U.S. vs. $430 USD in Sweden).
