Do we really need another release of the new MacBook when the MacBook Pro hasn't been vastly improved since 2012? Apple and their priorities... o_O This upcoming Pro release better be something out of this world if it's taken this long.

Hopefully they do like the MacBook Air and drop the price, but in a faster processor and add an extra port. Then they can just get rid of the Air line altogether.

It's not about the resolution, because still every letter displayed on screen will be smaller. And with diminishing eyesight (which usually starts around age 35-40) the goal is to increase the size of each letter, not to decrease it, no matter the underlying resolution.
Can't you scale to a lower resolution to increase text size? You can do this on the RMBP; of course you would lose some real estate though.

The thing about the price is that this product doesn't existist in a vacuum. There are better machines out there that are just as portable, have more ports and better keyboards, and cost less to boot (although they run a crappy operating system ;)).

Most of the "just as portable" competitors that have more ports are 30-40% heavier and have a larger footprint.

I guess we are supposed to be overjoyed that this laptop comes standard with a keyboard? :p

Well, I was making my comparison with the Surface Pro 4. Add $130 for the keyboard cover and price becomes comparable, if not worse. The only machine I've seen that looks competitive that's cheaper is the Razer Stealth, which I already mentioned. XPS 13 weighs 30% heavier, and it's $1150 for an 8GB 256GB with a 1080p display, $1500 to get hi resolution display. As I said, I'm not saying the it couldn't use a price drop but I honestly don't think the price is as bad as people make it out to be.

Of course, but I believe the argument remains: I'm having a hard time switching from a 13" screen to a 12" screen, it does not feel like an upgrade at all.

Neither storage or speed are a big issue on my current MBA, my main reason to upgrade is a slightly bigger/better display (without a drastic increase in price and/or weight). A larger screen will reduce eye strain and enhance my posture.

Great, now put a quality processor in there and drop the price to a reasonable level.

Exactly. But I think it'll depend on whether or not they're losing the MBA.
Three similar product lines is not smart, so if the MBA is dropped, we could see a noticible price reduction.

Refresh the price while your at it.

Given that Mac sales are currently an increasing share of the International market (see previous Mac Rumors article), Apple's price must already be more than reasonable. A refreshed price could even lead to a price increase, depending on how fast the competition's market share is dropping.

Well to be fair it is a new and improved keyboard that nobody else offers.....

Definitely going to be minor if it's not announced at an event. Probably just an updated set of price points and specs.

Yes, a quiet spec bump. The real upgrade comes after September of this year, assuming the next iPhone removes the 3.5mm headphone jack. Then we'll get a mid-cycle product refresh like the iPad 4 which replaced the 30-pin dock connector with a Lightning port. Only this time, the rMB will have the 3.5mm jack replaced by the Lightning port.

Hopefully they do like the MacBook Air and drop the price, but in a faster processor and add an extra port. Then they can just get rid of the Air line altogether.

The extra port will come after Apple releases the next iPhone without a 3.5mm jack, and they replace it on the rMB with a Lightning 2 port. It will still require an adapter for use with most things, but then so does USB-C currently.

My personal theory is that Lightning will become the standard charging port on all of Apple's mobile devices, leaving the more delicate USB-C port free for standard data interface peripherals.

"Electronics retailer Best Buy has quietly removed all 12-inch MacBook models from its U.S. online store this week, fueling anticipation that Apple will refresh the ultra-thin notebook lineup in the near future."

April's almost over dude... Weather any type of refresh would actually happen soon is questionable.. I wouldn't put it past Best Buy they may have pulled them for the wrong reasons. or at least too early.

Or you could just buy a MBP?

Wasn't the MBA really expensive when it first came out too?

The MacBook isn't for me, I know that.
However, for whoever it is, it should be cheaper considering it is so ridiculously underpowered for its price.

"It's about its style and weight" → no excuse. Style and weight are trademarks of Apple and the standard you would Apple hold to to begin with.

"Just buy X" is kind of getting old too.
Let me guess, I should also "just buy the 64GB model" if I don't like their entry model being 16GB at the current price point for iPhones either, right?
Give me a break. Of course I won't buy the wrong model feeling forced to buy entry-level hardware, it's not about that.

Good. I really enjoyed everything about the first Gen Macbook except the single USB-C port and the lack of power when editing photos and video. It's a perfect system though if all you are doing is word processing, creating spread sheets or power points etc though. Add a couple more USB ports and bump up the processor, and this thing will sell like hotcakes.
