This is exactly why stores like Simply Mac and other smaller authorized resellers are going out of business. smdh... there used to be a time when Apple didn't allow stores to discount their product like this otherwise they would lose their license to sell the products.

Are discounts ever more than this? I can't find any instances...wondering if it's a good time to buy?

This has me seriously considering getting a 12" MacBook. It's not like they are made for speed or the Kaby Lake update will provide any tangible benefit for my wife's usage.

That's actually great! I'm still in the dilemma of waiting or switch to Dell...
the last Precision/XPS Kaby Lake update is tempting, but there are some bumps that slowing me down (Dell Customer Support, Thunderbolt Port has only 2 PCIe lanes, HDMI is 1.4) :(

now discount on Apple MacBook Pro 2016.....if only I can make it 32GB RAM.... :(

Well its the best selling MacBook pro since, well forever, according to Cook. So either he's wrong, or it is just some random Best Buy merchandise manager wanting to take some lower profit. I'll leave it to you to decide.
Neither. This is the new approach that Apple has been taking for quite a while. Regular sales via retail merchants are no longer an indicator of overstock, clearing inventory to make way for new models, etc.

It is nothing more complicated than a method of periodically stoking sales... especially in the post-holiday doldrums of end of Jan/beginning of Feb.

Hopefully this is clearing out stock. Wouldn't mind a Kaby Lake MacBook. Please add a 2nd USB-C port and 720p iSight, thanks.
My guess is that it will get Kaby Lake but not a second USB-C port, as that would require adding a chipset. That said, Kaby Lake brings a nice clock speed boost to the 4.5W chips (the faster models now are called Core i5/i7 instead of m5/m7).

Buy MacBook now or wait...
$300 off is better than refurb pricing. If you don't want to wait for April (when the new model likely will come out), go for it. The Skylake MacBook is nice.

I think Apple will slowly migrate to these retail price points in the future (couple of years maybe):
  • 12in Macbook will replace the MBA as the entry computer: $999
  • 13in Macbook Pro (non-touch bar) will replace the 2015 base MBP: $1275
These are great deals. I lean toward the 12in rMB, but I will probably wait for a 720p iSight camera, updated Processor, and Thunderbolt 3. Frankly, my 2014 MBA is running smooth as butter, so I can wait.

Yea, back in the 80s with much lower unit sales.
Are you seriously arguing in favour of keeping prices high ? smh

Besides, big box stores like BB do not discount anything unless permitted to do so by Apple. Apple pays BB for retail space. BB makes next to nothing on the actual unit sale.

Smaller chains like SimplyMac are probably out of favour with Apple, in light of their own store expansion, but overall B&M stores are generally under threat from increased online sales.

You don't think it's because of the the massive growth in Apple retail stores and the growth of online shopping in general?

This is probably not happening. I wanted to ask to make sure though.

Can you use the education discount at Best Buy on top of this sale ? Thanks
