This is probably not happening. I wanted to ask to make sure though.

Can you use the education discount at Best Buy on top of this sale ? Thanks
Only if Best Buy has sent you a separate edu discount that is applicable toward Macbooks. I've been able to do it before when the edu discount coupon coincides with a sale.

Kaby Lake unlikely until fall.
I'd guess April for the 12" MacBook. Kaby Lake MacBook Pros are unlikely until this fall since the Skylake models just came out.

Isn't kind of quick to be seeing discounts already on the Macbook Pro?
Probably not. January isn't exactly a great month for computer sales (since the holidays are over and people are paying off bills, plus it's too early for tax refunds).

It's also possible Apple is experimenting with price points. The new MacBook Pros are pricey. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a price adjustment when the next update comes out (maybe dropping the nTB model to $1299 or $1399 - depending on whether they keep the 13" Air around).

It looks like whatever pent-up demand existed has been satisfied, and now people are put off by the rip-off MSRP pricing.

Picked up a MBP 13" open box for additional $80 discount. Looks perfect. Not happy about the dual USB-C ports but my MacBook Air was getting old.

Ah don't worry, the "new" one will get old within 6 months to a year as well.
