Best Buy to Begin Selling Apple Watch on August 7

I do not get how this site is focused on Apple products and yet people here have only negative things to say about the Apple Watch. Instead of degrading the product tell us what you would like to change about it? Or if the product just isn't for you don't post, just like an Iphone 6 Plus is not for me!

It seems to me that its the same people wearing a regular 300$ watch saying "they don't need an apple watch" Well guess what, your regular watch only tells you the time as does your phone, so I guess you don't need that either.

The watch is a quality product which should have been released with os 2.0. Although software you can fix, and there is not much to complain about concerning hardware. I can see only benefits from this post, as Best Buy creates competitive prices and more availability.

Thank you for saying what every reasonable person around here is thinking. Sometimes I really hate reading the comments on here because people are just so incredibly negative.

Based on my experience with Best Buy, this may not bode well. I have seen their store operations from the inside. They will definitely need to merchandise this within the Apple store area and hope they can have a dedicated Apple rep to oversee the process. My wife was also a mystery shopper for a company that did surveys for Best Buy. Let's say the outcome wasn't always very positive. Not trying to bash BB, but they really need to put their game face on for customer service. I'm not really surprised at Apple doing this as now it opens up watch sales to the masses. Just wondering what the return policy will be and if they are going to allow fittings. Seems they don't have the staff for that.

I don't get why BB sells Apple stuff. There's never anyone around for help. It's like buy android or Windows or we don't care.

Does the company not see how their stores treat people?

Reminds me of CompUSA

It will not be in ALL of the Best Buy stores:

It will begin to arrive in more than 100 Best Buy stores

Some people do not have access to an apple store. Also it is more cost effective for apple to have best buy sell their products instead of investing in a store in certain locations. Its also branding, many people visit best buy and then will see apple and have the opportunity to buy their product.

Instead apple invests in an actual apple employee who works at best buy to manage the people selling the apple products. Its a great idea, but not very effective. Probably not on apples priority list to make better, as they only pay the one person and the rest work for best buy.

I tried the leather one on and it was surprisingly light weight. Way lighter than it looks or than I thought it would be.
But... The leather band felt really soft. And looked almost dare I say. A little cheap.
The stainless steel looked better than I thought it would and now I want the stainless one. But I just don't like any of the bands they offer. Except maybe the mesh looking one.
But that's the one I dislike the least so that isn't saying much.

Have a look at the relevant forum threads here, especially this one:
The Great "Third Party Band/Strap" Thread

So I'm torn. I'm gonna thing about it longer. I tried I at the store. The apps opened really slowly. So I'll reserve judgement after that new update. Then I'll try again. I want to like it but it isn't up to par just yet. Especially for the price I'm going to pay. In my humble opinion

Do you get to return it for a refund within two weeks? If so, that would be your best bet - or wait till watchOS 2.0 is out first.

Come on... it's an electronics store. Should Apple be so snobby that they don't even allow retail stores to sell their things according to Apple's own regulations?

Some people, who have no idea what marketing is will never realize the exposure that apple products will provide in certain locations like best buy. Especially a typical user who purchases windows their entire life and always goes to best buy, but never has seen or used a mac.

Although Best Buy may provide some terrible information regarding apple products, they still give more rural locations a somewhat viable apple experience.

Haven't stepped inside a Best Buy in years. Their prices are ridiculous and their employees are idiots. What shocked me most about this headline was that they're still in business.

You're probably not the kind of customer they want in their stores anyway. Best Buy offers a price match guarantee so if you find something being sold anywhere else for cheaper they will match beat the price by 10% of the difference, online or elsewhere.

WOW !!!! What a blast from the past! Haha I forgot all about CompUSA. Man their service was horrible!!! I remember asking people for help and nobody knew anything!! It's as if they took people from Anchor Blue and TjMaxx and put them in Comp USA. Ha!

So I walked into the Apple Store at south coast plaza in Orange County California and the guy working there asked if I'd like to try one on. I said, yeah, sure!

Actually, I bought my Perfoma 475 from them and it was a good experience and a great deal. Staff was very helpful. Later on, bought my HK Soundsticks that I still have today.

This seems like it may become a good traffic/sales driver for BB.

If by the holidays the only places to get a apple watch are boutiques, Apple stores and BB in person and only the Apple Store online. People won't be Amazon shopping BB for the watch.

They'll actually be coming in to try and buy. The uniqueness factor might create a different dynamic for BB and any other item they are stocking.

Our Best Buy is full of teenagers and early twenties guys with gauges, goatees and anxiety from managers who must be pushing them to sell. The last time I was there a guy tackled me as I came in the door with a memorized speech about smart lights behind the TV and how I'd feel like I was there in the movie. It is all TV and Samsung tablet sales for profit there.

Yup! I hope they will let us play with a watch on display. I haven't even gotten to see one in person yet.

I would call that a must. I didn't buy one until I had tried them on. It's hard to know how big the watch versions are and the difference between sport and watch. Same thing with the bands. During a try-on of a band on Saturday, the medium blue leather band fit me, but the larger one had the clasp on the outside of the wrist. That means it won't cause the Morse code tapping I do now when I am typing and lay my wrist down on a desk.

You also don't know how pretty the stainless steel one is until you see it under all those lights. The sport one isn't bad, but the SS just looks so much better to me.

Apple sells millions of iPhones every quarter because their customers are from far and wide. Not everyone has the convenience of an Apple Store nearby, and not everyone feels comfortable ordering online. Best Buy may not give you the best buying experience, but no doubt they still sell a few, especially if they aren't as stringent with "out of town" customers! ;)

Exactly right, they don't want intelligent customers. They want people who are either too busy to look for a better price, too dumb to find one online, or can't be bothered. It allows them to keep overpricing the way they do.

I paid $200 less for my 2015 15" i7 MBP then if I would have bought at the Apple store.

I have bought six out my last 7 Macs at BestBuy.

I had a great experience from CompUSA back around 2001 right after 9/11 happened. There was a top of the line HP desktop I wanted that had been on sale for about $1299. I went back the weekend after 9/11 happened and the computer was no longer on sale. The salesman gave me the sale price anyways without charging tax so that I could walk out with the computer that day. I always shopped there after that because of what they did for me until they closed, then I went to BestBuy.

I used that computer till I got my first Mac in 2007.

I live in California and I've seen a lot of people wearing it. I've talked to about 10 people and I'd say 3 out of ten people said they don't like it or see s point in having one but then again one of those three received it as a gift so perhaps he didn't want it to begin with.
Most people have told me they love it. And majority told me at first they were unsure and had a little buyers remorse "like what is it good for" but then they say it grew on them and they enjoy it a lot. So I'm torn. I'm gonna thing about it longer. I tried I at the store. The apps opened really slowly. So I'll reserve judgement after that new update. Then I'll try again. Sounds like it'd be best for you to wait for gen 2. Failing all else, you'll be able to buy an Apple Watch 1 for less money.

Should have just sold them there in the beginning.

More places to buy when people actually wanted them = win for Apple, win for the small minority that wants it

The bit that caught my attention: they say Best Buy will have the watch in 16 configurations. Minus the Editions, I think the Apple Watch display tables currently show 30 configurations (is that right?). I wonder which 16 they're carrying and which 14 they won't carry.

Oh come on. Even the iPhone wasn't really worth owning until the App Store came out.

Pretty much every Apple product needs a year or two before it actually gets good.

So you're saying that you "don't get" why we're treating the watch the exact same way that every other first-gen Apple product is treated?

What's confusing about that? Why should the watch be any different?
