1) "Retarded" -- using that word shows your own mentality.

2) Customers that go to BB and ask questions YOU think are dumb do so b/c tech is a mystery to them. Be glad this describes most people or BB would be the way of Circuit City too. Being a sales person means its your job dealing with those kind of questions. If that annoys YOU don't work there -- how about that?

3) BB's Ill-informed customer base is why some of your cohorts can take advantage of them and convince them to buy an extended warranty on a $100 camera when they tell them "LCD screens tend to crack in hot weather."

4) What I personally hate about BB is that they are frequently more expensive than even MSRP. I needed to buy an Airport Express the other day -- but they are $10 MORE than Apple. WTF? Then there is all that private label Rocketfish junk that is the same price as normal branded counterparts everywhere else. There is a reason it's given the moniker "Worst Buy," and "Bust Buy."

When BB first came to town 10+ years ago I thought it was Heaven. But it's changed into a junk shop. Most of the higher end products are gone and 90% of the employees are either slicksters who make up stories, incompetent, or lazy (tells you something is out of stock rather than going to the back to find it even when the computer says more than 10 available). I don't even enjoy browsing there anymore.

15 years ago electronics stores made a nice profit on the big ticket items. in the late 1990's it changed to selling the big ticket stuff as a loss leader or break even and make money on the warranty or accessories. then you had monoprice and newegg pop up that sell the same accessories except without the brand name and the only reason to go to best buy is to get stuff the day you want it or because they can cut deals to get hot items like the kinect in stock

Apple's supply chain management is good enough where they wouldn't have to seek to liquidate inventory. Plus, Best Buy ran out before the iPad 2 was announced.

My guess is that the last iPad 1 rolled of the manufacturing line about 45-60 days ago and since then, they have been in the pre-launch manufacturing ramp.

Besides, it makes more sense for Best Buy to deploy on the device that they're actually selling.

Best Buy did not run out of iPads before the iPad 2 was announced. My store had (as of yesterday) 3 dozen or so. And Best Buy is participating in the $100 off each model sale.

You use the exception to the rule to provide fortification for your dislike of a retailer.

The Airport Express being $10 more than Apple's online store is not representative of Best Buy's pricing.

Awesome

This is awesome! I was responsible for convincing my fellow executives to vote in favor of getting us connected at my place of employment. We are now even more productive; the iPad is revolutionizing medicine. I am now counting down the days until I can get the iPad 2.

Best Buy may not be in business in one or two years. I know the one near my house is a sad, empty space. The i Pad will not save BB. I guess we are all going to buy everything on line. I like to look at the product before I buy it, but that may not be the case in the future.

You bring up a good point... the future of places like BB???? I know I want to see a product like a TV before I buy. But maybe the stores will be smaller. Less choices and more streamlined? Don't know?

If BB has a good portal for the iPad in the stores, it could be very useful for digging up specs on the spot as well as keeping shopping lists for customer while their being assisted. Could be cool.

Also, not all waiters are going to want to hold a 10" device (the size of a menu in reality) everywhere they go. It's a bit impractical. And if it gets dropped, $500+ down the toilet. Lovely.

I can't promise that iPads are better, but the cost for a couple hundred of those nice printed menus has to be a few thousand dollars at least. The iPad cost might be a little higher but not hugely higher.

As far as Best Buy goes, iPads could be useful to help sell big ticket items like stoves, refrigerators, flat screen TVs and such. The more questions you can answer immediately the better the chance of a sale. Maybe they can also check stock at other stores, delivery times, or show product that is not on display.

If the salesman has an iPad he is more likely to advise the consumer to purchase one over an android tablet. Simple, Smart.

Add BB to the list. It's amazing how many businesses and places are using the iPad. There are hundreds now installed in the Delta terminals at Laguardia and JFK airports in NY. They are mounted into tables throughout the terminals for ordering food, entertaining waiting passengers with games, and surfing the internet. I've seen them at numerous hotels now in my travels, installed at the consierge desks, so guests can research dining, shopping and entertainment options. And of course Hyundai includes one with the owner's manual for the Equus car.

Does anyone not see how much of a terrible idea this is? Best Buy already has super crappy customer service. Now, these wanna be know it alls will be walking around with iPads to further their ADD. NO ONE is going to be getting helped in that place!

Not if he hates it.

We use Lexmark printers at my job.

Let me tell you, I will *NEVER* ever recommend Lexmark. The only way you could give me a Lexmark is if that was the only way I could have a printer. Pieces of crap with lazy engineering. For example the old model will reliably jam if you put a full ream of paper in. This is a printer designed for a business so lots of use. You want to be able to put in a full ream or you will be constantly filling the printer. So the new version of the model... how do they fix it? They made it so you couldn't put a full ream of paper in it. It's like the engineering equivalent of putting duct tape to fix the problem (rather than put in a real fix they put in some stop gap). Not only are their printers crap they apparently can't be bothered to actually try to design them to work how they should.

So yeah, that only works if you make a good product.

Right...depends on the use case, the restaurant, how often the menu changes (not just "specials"), clientelle, etc.

I would like to know the justification/purpose of giving 180,000 employees iPads...is it for personal use? Work use? Will they take them home? If not, does each employee have his/her own or do they just grab one from the bin every morning? Lots of questions.

I still can't see each employee having one for work...seriously...if I had to carry around an iPad (or similar) for 6-8 hours every day ALL DAY LONG I would quickly lose it or break it. It's not a pen. It's not a pad of paper.

I doubt BB is giving these out to employees to own. I would imagine them being in store for use, like the inventory scanners, or the computer terminals used within the store already to check inventory for customers. Only now, the employee wouldn't have to leave the customer to check price or stock.

It would be interesting to know who within Forbes, Apple owns, in the same way they own Walt Mossberg. While it's "just another story" to the mainstream consumer, the love fest here in the forum is rather extensive.

There's a huge number of iPad owners feeling even better about themselves tonight.

It's this intrinsic connection between fanboys and their inanimate Apple stuff that's so flippin funny. Some are so "in love" they call their Apple stuff "sexy."

Now that's one very bizarre viewpoint.

this is a little off topic, but i recently stayed at the plaza hotel in new york city and each room had an ipad that controlled the lights and temperature of the room. i thought it was totally awesome! here's a pic of it i took:

Why didn't they choose an Android tablet? LOL

Have you even used one?

I have seen them but seems to only look good in commercials and laggy also. Costco had one on to play with one world came to mind "Not". :(

Because 4G is a myth for most of the USA. Call back in a few years.

Don't do that, you know breaking people's fantasy. What else do they have?

Your right about call back in 3 to 5 years to be taken serious with 4G.

They can go die in a fire.

Oh and to everyone planning to buy their iPad at BB, get it but *DO NOT* get the Black Tie warranty they offer, it's a scam. :D You get your iPad, and BB makes no money.

Sincerely,

A disgruntled former employee :D
