Same here. My friend went in to buy an iPad last fall and they told her to wait for the HP tablet because the iPad sucks and there will be more Android apps. She left and went to an Apple Store nearby to get her iPad. I have no idea why they bash Apple. Maybe the Geek Squad would be out of biz if everyone used Macs. Everytime I am in a BB, I always hear some Geek Squad guy confusing the heck out of old people with tech speak. I don't get it.

Funny, the experience at my Best Buy is like an alternate universe compared to that. More people are either Mac heads coming in, or have converted (even up to manager levels) to Mac because of the style and because they just work.

partially, they are losing money because they invest in stupid things like Buyback that will probably be axed in a year, and they also are getting smaller margins on actual product which means they have to jack up accessory and service prices to make up for that (this is where your post comes in).

I think that, whatever else happens to the Buyback, it will stay in the mobile phones.

Why? Because the amount you get credited back when you use it is not the subsidized price of the phone, it's the free and clear, no-contract price.

So, let's say you bought an iPhone 4 today, and got Buyback because you heard that they were coming out with a new phone later this year.

Fast forward to later this year - iPhone 5 is out, and you want to trade yours in. You've babied your phone knowing it would fetch you a higher trade-in value. You then get 50% back, not of the $299 (pulling a price out of the air) price you paid, but of the free and clear price of the phone (somewhere around $599?) So you'd get pretty much an even trade, minus the cost to sign up for the thing at the outset. And depending on the free and clear cost of whatever phone you pick, it might be a wash even taking the cost of the Buyback.

Make sense?

That's why I left Windows for Mac. First because "they just work" and their elegant style was a bonus. :apple:

Best Buy to Provide iPads to All Retail Employees?

I read through the report and it was a great source of information. Thanks for providing the great read!
