Just a heads up for anyone thinking about trading in their watch. Best Buy is offering $300 for my Midnight Series 9 GPS 45mm to trade in for a Series 10. Apple is only offering $170.
Not going to find a better trade in deal anywhere. I doubt you could sell it used for that much either.Just saw this.... very tempting!
Thanks for pointing this out. The trade-in is a little hard to figure out though. Some of the S9 trade-ins say $180, and others are $300. The model number on my box say MR9Q3ll/A. You will be charged full price on the card and then when they get the watch they credit you the $300. I chose to pickup in store on launch day. They said to bring the watch with me. I’m not sure how it would work if you shipped it. I really didn’t look into it.Thanks for pointing this out. The trade-in is a little hard to figure out though. I think my model number is different because I got my watch with a Nike band. I do have a midnight band I could give them, but I dont want to get $180 trade-in after sending in my watch. Any ideas?
Thanks... My particular question relates to what they will do when my model number (MR9Q3LL/A) is not one of the S9 Midnight GPS model numbers that they list on thier website. My watch came with a Nike band and it looks like all the trade-in model numbers were for sport bands. You will be charged full price on the card and then when they get the watch they credit you the $300. Where are you seeing $180?Thanks... I don't want to do the trade-in with BestBuy, if they decide to give me $180 instead of $300.
What was the trade in process like?if you are a total tech member you can get 330 ... on a BB gift card TODAY to use toward a purchase at BB on anything. I took my 45 mm series 9 in and got the 330 gift card. it is a great deal as that is what I paid for it when it was on sale.
Did you need the charger and band?I was in and out in under 10 minutes. They put the serial numbers in it and scanned it and got me the gift card. I had my original packaging and receipts though from them when I bought it so that probably helped.
Did you take in your band, box, and charger, or just the watch like at Apple stores?if you are a total tech member you can get 330 ... on a BB gift card TODAY to use toward a purchase at BB on anything. yes, I know. That wasn't the question.Apple Store trade in is just the actual watch.
My bad. I caught it right when I replied.yes, I know. That wasn't the question.
You can trade in at most stores. Not sure if there are exceptions for particular products. With Best Buy do they take the trade at the store? Or do they do something the same an Apple sending you the box to later have them give you credit?
Did you need the charger and band?
It's a great deal compared to any other trade in deal out there if you are set on upgrading from a Series 9. It's an even better deal if you purchased the Series 9 on sale and didn't pay full price. I'm guessing the average person doesn't upgrade yearly like you said. I'd bet that there are lots of people that visit this forum who do. If you are set on purchasing and trading in every year, it is most cost effective to purchase the GPS aluminum model because the trade in value on the higher end models doesn't scale up based on purchase price.Doesn't strike me as too good a deal at all, that Series 9 is still good as new. That's over 150 bucks wasted every year (considering the tax that comes on top of the $429 with each year's upgrade) for just the GPS-only aluminum model. What's the point?
You could instead spend that extra yearly upgrade cost on a much nicer stainless steel or now titanium model and get cellular as well and keep it for a couple of years. There's barely any differences from one year to the next. You're paying extra just for a miniscule increase in display size, somewhat reduced charge times and a fraction of an inch thickness reduction.
The only reason I am upgrading now is that I still have a 40mm so at least there's 2 size increases going to the Series 10 and mine never had fast charging so that will be improved considerably as well. If I had a S9 I would absolutely not want to upgrade so soon especially since I don't want the aluminum and upgrading stainless steel or titanium every year is extra money I can burn more effectively elsewhere.
(I understand that money might not be a concern but even then I'd rather waste it on a new OLED iPad or something where I can get an actual benefit out of it. There's no difference in day to day use from one Watch generation to the next. The improvements are ever so small so Apple can keep churning out these yearly iterations with little effort.)
Crazy but true. Best Buy's offer on my graphite stainless steel cellular series 9 with sapphire screen is $180. Apple's offer is only $170. I looked up the trade-in values mostly as a point of curiosity as I have little interest in updating to one of the new models, but if they were trying to discourage me from upgrading with offers so pitiful they that would make a car salesman blush, then mission accomplished. It looks like trade-in value is $300 for a GPS-only Series 9 but $180 for a cellular-enabled Series 9.......
I pulled the trigger. I selected pick up from the store and bring my watch in for trade-in. I figured if something goes wrong with the trade in, I can just cancel the whole order and get all my money back. Not going to find a better trade in deal anywhere. I actually just canceled mine and switched it to just doing the trade in for a Best Buy credit. Im going to go to Best Buy when I get time and trade it in in advance for the same reason, in case there are any problems. You can lock in the trade in price by going to the site and selecting the second option of getting $300 credit.I pulled the trigger.
