When Best Buy was trading in the UK, the in-store Apple departments were run by Apple employees. Is it different in the USA?

Depends on the Best Buy. I used to work at a Best Buy in Indiana and we had a Apple store within our store and there was an Apple employee dedicated to us, but he still wasn't there the whole time the store was open.

Even if I didn't have an Apple Store 5 minutes from my house I still rather buy from apple online than a best buy store. You will get better service too.

I can't wait until this stupid watch launches and in 6 month the hype dies down and suddenly people realize how ultimately useless smart watches are. I had Android Wear and can tell you first hand the "new" factor wears off extremely fast. By the end of the first week its just another device you constantly have to remember to charge every night that sucks down your phones battery life due to the constant connection. Give it 6 months and these things will be piled up in pawn shops.
People said the same thing about the oversized phone dubbed maxiPad.

Oh no! Best Buy is my Amazon.com showroom! If they don't stock it, how will I go check it out before buying off of Amazon?

Sounds like they are going full on hype mode. Restrict supply. Create the image of high demand. This whole thing has stink all over it.

I disagree... this makes total sense. You're not buying an iPad where your choices are limited to drive space. The demo unit on the floor would look and feel like the one you're buying.

However, given the Apple Watch is more personal, allowing customers to try it on, and try on different band styles will be needed in most cases. I know, I will want to try one before I buy one.

It's a very different buying experience and hats off to Apple for recognizing this and not just stuffing the channel with product until their channel is properly trained.

If apple is after the luxury marker, best for their image that they don't sell the apple watch at launch at BB.

"Apple has been training its retail employees to deliver a more personalized shopping experience, as many customers will want to try on the various watch editions, faces and bands to determine which is best for them. Given that, it would make sense that Best Buy, and possibly other authorized resellers such as Walmart, Target and Sam's Club, might not immediately sell the Apple Watch."

Odd. Walmart, Target and Sam's Club have jewelry counters and cell phone counters that are already set up in a way that would enable customers to try on the various watch editions, faces and bands to determine which is best for them.

I would imagine small items & this level of value would be attractive to thieves... or even temp minimum wage employees to become such.

Just because your Android Wear sucked, does not mean the Apple Watch will too.

However, I think you will be right if there's not a use that people get hooked on. There has to be something it does to give it sticking power, or people will leave it behind over time. I guess we'll have to see.

Best Buy already sold some of their store space to Samsung. They could easily replace that area where no one wanders in to with the Apple Watch

I'd really like to somehow preserve this silly statement of yours, and in six months shove it in your face in the light of Apple's soon-to-be new blockbuster success with Watch.

Right... And if/when Apple sells a car I bet they won't sell that in Best Buy either. It couldn't be that different products are better suited to different retail settings. It's just to fake high demand and because of the "stink" right?

Agreed.

Apple wants to control all aspects of how the  Watch is sold and presented to potential buyers. At this point, they don't want to hand that to those not qualified this early in the game. This time is the most important and will shape the perception of buyers to come.

From my experience (in the U.S.) the "store in a store" at Best Buy pretty much sucks. A lonely little corner with absolutely nobody with any kind of Apple knowledge anywhere. There may be exceptions, but I haven't experienced them.

That's my experience too. And now other companies also have "stores" inside Best Buy so there's nothing exclusive about Apple's. Heck the last BB I was in the Samsung store was largest of all.

so much bestbuy hate. I actually love my local best buy. They price match everyone, and I am treated like a celebrity since I spent so much time/money in there.

Totally agree. I've moved from the UK to the US recently. We obviously have big electrical stores in the UK such as PC World/Currys, but I never, ever went to them (maybe because in the UK Amazon Prime is next day instead of 2 day :) ). However there are so many BBs here, 4 within a few miles of my house in New Orleans, I find myself going all the time and spending far too much.

Stuff is cheaper on Amazon, and don't get me wrong I order a lot of things on there too, but I'd hate to live in a world where all the physical shops are gone and you can only shop online, you pay a bit more but I do like to support the stores.

When Best Buy was trading in the UK, the in-store Apple departments were run by Apple employees. Is it different in the USA?

Before CompUSA went out of business, our local store had an Apple department that was staffed by an Apple employee. There was essentially no Apple stuff in the Best Buy across the street at the time.

The mall a few blocks away eventually got a real Apple store, and the Best Buy has an Apple department but no evidence of Apple staff. Well, that was a couple of years ago when I was last in Best Buy. The Apple department may be gone now for all I know.

The situation might be different at Best Buy stores that are far from the nearest Apple store.

Just because your Android Wear sucked, does not mean the Apple Watch will too.

I do realize the intrinsic thrill some people get from assuming anything Android is evil junk. It's highly fashionable to bash them on this forum.

Stepping back and looking at the big picture from a perspective of marketing, anything Android is accompanied by very little marketing.

Especially as compared to the opposite extreme... the juggernaut of truly professional, first class Apple marketing.

If they were equal products Apple would still prevail selling millions because that's what Apple does. Not only build good products, but back them with masterful marketing and first class support.

That alone should keep the comparisons to a minimum. I mean really? Why Compare.

Yet without fail at every opportunity the insecure bash Android to make themselves feel better.

Personally I understand why Apple has taken this position. Once again their brilliance is showing. With a stellar launch, in the rare event they fail to sell as Apple may expect, it'll be because the smartwatch category has limited public interest.

The Apple Watch itself is designed and built by the best in the business.

I've never bought a watch there, but I did once at Costco. Never again.

Meh...if I were going to buy an Apple device, I'd check the official source first (Apple).

I hate Best BUy and their warranty shoving ways.

Just to set the record straight. I was not bashing Android... or the Android Wear... I was just making a point from the original poster on their take that because he lost interest in his Android Wear watch, does not mean people will loose interest in any other smart watch... maybe there was nothing compelling about the Android Wear watch?

I personally hate both sides of the coin when it comes to bashing other products. I don't see a need for it. Every product has their plusses and minuses.
