Just tested the $50 unlimited everything T-mobile plan on my new unlocked iPhone 4s. The EDGE speed is horrible.

I am going to try straight talk...

If you don't use that much data, H20 just lowered their prices. It's not $55/month for unlimited talk, text and 1GB of data - no need to buy a useless phone.

So what exactly did you figure out financially?

You're really just offsetting the unlocked vs. locked iPhone price over the course of 2 years because of the termination fee.

I assume you're using an individual plan rather than a family plan? I can get 2 iPhone 4S on AT&T with 2GB Data Plans and Unlimited Texting w/ Mobile to Any Mobile and 900 minutes for about $135 per month. I suppose I could drop texting if I wanted to and get that down to $105 considering iMessage.

But, long story short, why did you want to pay for the full retail price of the phone?

I'm curious to hear how your prepaid plans go. Good to hear that you didn't like the T-Mobile one. I'm curious to hear about the AT&T prepaid?

I did not know that AT&T does no contract iPhone plans.

From what I understand even if you own your own GSM iPhone AT&T is going to want a minimum 1 year contract.

Nope, AT&T has never required it. Sprint has though. Not sure about Verizon.

Prepaid usually only makes sense if you only have one line of service.

If I can get someone to form a family plan like you, then contract post paid plan will be better, not to mention that I can get cooperate discount. However, I am single, so I can only get an individual plan, I can't find a person who can share with me.

I switched to ATT 4 years ago when the 1st iPhone came out, I subscribed to their plan, including taxes I will be paying $70 +++ for the next 2 years, I didn't upgrade to the next iphone, as I realized that the plan get more expensive, with the 3GS, I realized that I will be paying $80 +++ every month. Then come the iPhone 4, I was wanted to upgrade at that time, as 1st generation iPhone is getting slower, but I realized if I will be paying $90 +++ every month. So I decided to hold back and just wait and see.

Meanwhile, after 2.5 years of paying $70 +++ for my 1st generation iPhone plan, I decided that it is just too expensive, the EDGE speed is slow and not worth for me to pay so much every month. I wasn't "carrier-savvy" or "phone-savvy" at that time. I just wanted to save money. So I told ATT that I will drop my unlimited cellular data plan and my unlimited SMS plan, my phone bill became $55++ per month with just 450 mins and 200 messages and this is after cooperate discount.

In the last few months, I have asking myself why am I stupidly paying AT&T $55 per month, but I don't enjoy anything at all, I have no internet access on my phone, I have limited SMS, I am so scare of over texting my friends.

I am tired and done with AT&T, I feel that I am paying AT&T so much money every month for the last 4 years, yet I don't truly enjoy it at all. Even though I am already out of contract 2 years after I got the 1st iPhone, because of my stupidity, I sticked with AT&T, and in the last 1 1/2 year I have a 1st generation iPhone with cracked screen with no internet access and limited SMS. I feel like I am so out of date.

When I the iPhone 4s came out, I got interested again, this time, I seen a lot of people talking about unlocked phone, so I got interested into this topic, and decided to do a thorough research on it. To my surprise. I found that, I could have saved so much more money and truly enjoy my gadget to the best if I have thought of it earlier.

It is better to be late than never. Today, I decided to go unlocked and prepaid is because AT&T have created such a negative psychology feeling on me throughout the last 4 years. I am in a much better financial position that I was 2 years ago. With my income, paying $100+++ on the new iPhone 4s contract for 2 years is not really a big deal. But, the negative feeling that I had in the last 4 years made me feel that I would rather throw my money into trash than to pay AT&T.

I am done with contract, no more contract plan for me anymore in the future. I want to be free, I don't want to be bound by anything.

This is my last month with AT&T, my iPhone 4s came 2 days after my recycling date. I put my sim-card from my 1st generation iPhone into my new 4s, I don't even have any internet access, that is so pathetic and my bill is still going to be $55 this month. So I decided to just try T mobile $50 unlimited everything for 1 month, I like the reception, I no need to worry about over-texting my friends, but I just couldn't stand the slow EDGE speed.

Then I saw straight talk and H20, both of which seems to offer pretty good deals. I am going to try straight talk next week...even though what I paid will cover me for the entire month, but I actually don't mind paying all these to experiment things, kind of fun for me too.

Hmmm, the sim won't transfer from a original iphone to a 4s. So this makes me wonder how truthful this story really is.

By that I mean, I went to AT&T and ask them to give me a new sim-card for my iPhone 4s, it is free.

Keep me posted on what you decide since I am on the same boat. I bought a iPhone 3GS on craiglist but hate to get a plan from AT&T since I hate the contract. I like their unlimited prepaid plan but I want to know if data works on iPhone without paying more than $50.

I think

Straight Talk is on t-mobile infrastructure - EDGE ONLY

H2O wireless on ATT infrastructure - 3G

please correct me if I am wrong.

Straight Talk uses Verizon, ATT and T-Mobile depending on the phone you choose with them. Purchasing a Nokia phone guarantees a ATT sim thus you will have 3G.

I have the exact same problem. Got an iphone 4 from a friend, but couldn't get any prepaid plans for internet use with any T-mobile or AT&T provider....

I checked H20's $59.99 unlimited plan, but after checking out Straight Talk's $45 unlimited that's just much better so I'm going to give it a shot. Just ordered my micro-simcard from them (costs $15) and will receive it soon. Keeping my fingers crossed...

I'm using my iPhone 4 (sim-free from UK) on AT&T using their goPhone prepaid plan. For $50 a month i get 250 mins, unlimited SMS and 500mb data. I have wifi at home and work so 500mb works for me.

I was put off by the reduced speed of the MVNOs, i would rather have fast 500mb, compared with slower 2gb, although i understand that's not the same for everyone.

I had to make a mobileconfig file to set the AT&T APN, after that i've been using 3G on this plan for 5 months without issue. At&T even gave me a micro-sim knowing full well that I was going to put it in an iPhone on goPhone.

Do MMS work?
What about visual voicemail?

Nice job, thanks for following up.

We managed to combine our account with other people in our family on Sprint all with iPhones, so in the end we now pay $200/month for 4 lines of service with 1500 shared minutes, free nights and weekends, free mobile to any mobile, unlimited texting, and unlimited data. So it ends up being $100 per family, or $50 per line.

Not bad.

If you don't need much talk time the best plan is the T-mobile $30 Unlimited Web (5GB 3G/4G limit), Unlimited Text, 100 minute prepaid plan. Additional minutes are $0.10. You can see it at the bottom left of this page:

http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-plans

You can order the iPhone 4 micro SIM from T-mobile, then activate this plan online only....you can't activate it in a T-mobile store. For someone with an iPhone 5 it's best to order a full size SIM and use a sim cutter to make it "nano."

Or just go into a tmobile store and ask for the nano like i did

T-Mobile does have 3G in NYC.

Why would you buy an unlocked iPhone, put an AT&T sim card in it, and have the 2-year contract?

Buy a locked iPhone for $200
Or an unlocked with AT&T sim and 2-year for $650

I add lines to my account all the time. I don't have to sign a 2-year agreement every time I do it.
