I don't know about this.

I have a personal articles policy for my computer equipment. I asked SPECIFICALLY about the iPhone, and they told me that they set the smartphone cap for phones exactly 1 dollar above the price of the 8gb 2g iphone (bs sounding I know, but thats what I was told) and they proceeded to tell me that corp allowed them to insure another individual with many accounts (essentially I wasn't important enough).

But I wouldn't get a policy specifically for the phone if you can help it. I hear that after you file one claim, your next dedictible will be four hundred dollars. Additionally, every time you try to insure another item be it state farm or someone else then you will have to mention this little accident and they may or may not deny you.

Just saying. If you lose your phone once, DON'T do it again!
Oh yeah. As everyone else mentioned, this isn't applecare because it doesn't cover wear and tear.

File a claim and watch your rate go up (or get dropped like a poster here)? No thanks! I'll purchase with an AmEx card and get another year of protection free of charge (extended warranty).

My HTC Mogul is insured with State Farm It is a separate policy from my homeowner's and auto insurance policies. I'm actually calling them about the iPhone tomorrow.

funny this came up.. one of my friends was just talking about this this weekend.. he has his iphone insurred for $600 through state farm for $2 a month. he also has his laptop insurred for $1000.

I had the insurance on my iPhone through state farm and a few months later cracked my screen. I made 3 payments of $2.50 and got a check to get it replaced. A few days later I got a letter saying my policy was being dropped. It was good but, at least in my case, a one time thing.

I don't think people think that far ahead. True, the insurance company will buy you a new iPhone, but on the flip side they'll either cancel your policy or you're going to pay more the next time it's up for renewal esp. if it's tasked on to your homeowners policy.
