I installed QSpace just now and for some reason, it isn’t seeing connected network drives. I assume the section on QSpace listed as ‘Servers’ in the side bar is equivalent of network in Finder. Forklift sees my connected NAS right away.

Any ideas?

I don't see any evidence that QSpace does local network discovery (i.e. mDNS). So, I don't see available servers. However, if I have mounted a drive from my NAS (using Finder for example), I see the mount point under the Servers section in the side bar.

I just installed Bloom and I am impressed. Very powerful and not as hard as QSpace to setup. It also opens locations faster than QSpace.

Yes, from what I can tell, Bloom appears to be under heavy development; there have been at least two notable updates to the app in just a few days.

Another worthwhile option is "Folders," which has been mentioned here already. It's a nice app, especially for those of us who are Windows refugees. As of now--version 1.28.2--file management is single-pane only, though tabs are supported.

I was lured particularly attracted by the developer's reasonable policy: for $9, he promises lifetime updates. Indeed, an update became available during my trial, so it appears his intentions are sincere. Hopefully, it's money well-spent.

Okay to be clearer, the issues I have are:
  • Workspaces, when I have multiple open it's not clear as to what panes are visible in dual pane pairs when one looks to switch between them
  • Click and drag seems to do the same as option click and drag when moving files from one pane to another in a dual pane. Both seem to do a move operation.

Perhaps you could contact the developer about these behaviors? Were I a developer, I'd be grateful for the feedback.

low prices scares me as i do not think its sustainable. depending on the complexity of the app though an extension is not like office suite

That's the default behaviour in pretty much every dual pane file manager I've ever used.

Erm I disagree there, the problem here is you can't get a Copy operation at all using a Drag / keyboard combination. I worked around that by setting CONTROL-OPT-CMD C (and M) as shortcuts, it would be nice through to be able to add them to the window bar as at times using the keyboard is not always convenient. Just a consideration :)

A few other issues / questionsI've brought to the developers' attention:
  • When editing the toolbar I was looking to add Move and Copy commands, these do not seem to be available
  • Could you consider Side Bar order editing so that the different elements can be re-ordered, as an example I'd move the Workspaces Above Favourites
  • You are currently not abler to re-map CMD-N (New Window), ideally I'd look to use that command for with New Folder
  • I've tried using the advanced rename to remove all text after '1080p' in a movie file name. Is this possible?
  • When copying a large number of text files (backing up my forum on my NAS) I didn't see any progress that the copy operations were taking place. Since seeing that I've noticed the task button and will try using that (no time to test at the moment). If that does indeed turn on the progress it'd be very useful if there was an option to open it automatically?
Of those the advanced rename is the only major headache I can't work around.

Folders is a rather basic app, though it's still a nice improvement on Finders' functionality. It's also a plus, at least for me, that the developer is from Ukraine.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how Bloom--er, blooms.

Ditto on that. Solid competition would push Q-Space to be even better. I'd also like to try Bloom after a while - assuming the test subjects from this thread don't report problems or some malicious behavior.

The Bloom developer has just updated it and fixed all my issues plus answered all my questions.
I'm happy enough that I've just registered it. It'll suit nicely until the annoying refresh bug in fixed in QSpace Pro :)

Do you mean the bug where sometimes the listed files are not kept up to date if the contents is changed by another program?

I get that in the morning. So now, every morning I just restart QSpace and the refresh bug disappears. I suspect it relates to a Time Machine issue, backing up files when my computer is locked. I did report it to the developer and they said others have mentioned it but they've been unable to reproduce. I've never had the bug resurface during the day after the morning restart.

Yep that is the bug. But I get it occurring many times during the day, for example when Brave saves a file into my download directory. I know Wenda has been working on it with no luck.
