I just received the speck leather folio today in the mail and I can confirm it DOES in fact have the sleep/wake feature. BUT It is just very sometimey, for lack of a better word. Explained below:

(a) When the phone is laying on the desk and I open the flap the phone does not wake.

(b) However, if I am holding the phone in my hand or pick it up from off the desk and I move to open the flap using the phone does wake.

It seems like phone movement is what makes the sleep/wake feature work.

Not sure if this is an iOS 12 issue or a case design issue. Since item b is the more likely scenario for when I will be using the case I am ok with it.
Thanks for the great photos.

I can confirm that opening the cover flap on Apple's Leather Folio case wakes up the phone up every single time, whether the phone is on the desk or being held.

I read that Apple moved the location of the magnet slightly on the XS. Perhaps Speck used the old X location for both XS and XS Max?

Question. Does the Speck case have a magnetic flap on the cover?

It doesn’t seem like the flap is magnetic. Also, the stand feature is awesome!

The case itself is actually beautiful. Sleek and Classic. The front flap is sturdy and not reason to believe you will see the card imprint on the front flap like the Apple Folio. At $44 shipped this folio is a must have.

I think what your experiencing is an iPhone X, Xs & Xs Max feature i believe oled related, where lifting the phone turns the screen on. This isn’t related to the case. When the phone is on and you have it held in your hands and you close the front flap, it doesn’t power off.

But I do agree with you that it’s a great folio. Sleek, good looking and a lot of nice features.

I believe the feature that you are describing is called “Raise to Wake” and it is available on all iPhones since iOS 10 and is independent of the case. The setting is in the “Display and Brightness” menu.

Opening the case on a flat surface does not wake the phone with my leather folio case.

I returned my Black Apple folio for the Forrest Green. Lovely colour. One thing I have noticed on this years folio's is that Apple have moved the stitching forward a little on the card slot. Reason I noticed is that I used to place my newspaper voucher in the pocket but now it won't fit, despite me having the Max.

You are correct it is the raise to wake feature.

I picked up the black folio , to me it has the best fit and finish out of the bunch.

In the speck folio I folded a $20 bill and placed it in the card area with one cc. Fits great. A backup bill just in case. I just love this folio. What makes it go from good to great is the fact that it folds into a stand. I’ve already used it a few times that way.

I’m right there with you man. The speck leather folio has the most value on the market with an awesome price point. Hopefully, they add the wake/sleep feature next year and I would consider it perfect. There is no reason to buy the apple version at $130+ and that’s coming from an Apple homer lol

So, there's nothing in the market now that has wake/sleep except for Apple's own folio for the Max?

Vaja Cases says their folio does sleep/wake but it doesn’t offer any other feature like being able to fold into a stand or hold cards.
