Hello! I am getting my hands on a new 16" MacBook pro with the 5500 and 8gb and Im ready to blast the vent core.

What are the best FPS titles for the Mac at this point? Counterstrike anything? Just looking for some fun.

Shockingly hard to find info...

TIA

Also, I am downloading ARMA III. It ran well on my RX 480 on Windows, I'm not sure how it will run on my RX 460 on Mac, but that is a military FPS, and can be fun. There is a lot to that game though and will take some time to learn the controls.

Plenty of older games should play well on high settings and newer ones on medium to high. Not at full resolution of course.

Look for discounts on all the main digital shopfronts. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is going for a very low price on Steam right now.

Will you be using Bootcamp For gaming?

Is Alien Isolation considered an FPS? It's a first-person game and you can shoot, but still...

Well
If you are stubborn to stay on MacOs, Call of Duty MW franchise, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Far Cry 2&3, Crysis 1 & 2 and Red Orchestra 1&2 work flawlessly in CrossOver and are worth replying.

This thread makes me sad as Mac gamer. The vast majority of the games listed are years old and won't even run on the latest macOS. :(

I am also a fan of FPS and only play native Mac games, no Bootcamp. Unfortunately a lot of good games are 32-bit and can't be played in 10.15 but there are still some good ones left that I personally look forward to play. Here is my list:

64-bit games for 10.15

Bioshock Remastered
Bioshock 2 Remastered + DLC Minerva's Den (coming to Mac according to Feral's newsletter)
Borderlands 2 + All DLCs
Borderlands 3 + DLCs
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Dying light + DLC The Following
Metro 2033 Redux
Metro Last Light Redux
System Shock Remastered 2020 (coming to Mac)

You should also consider Alien Isolation and Tomb Raider. There are several 32-bit games that don't work in 10.15. I have currently an old iMac so I plan to finish them first before switching to Catalina. Here is the list:

32-bit games not for 10.15

Bioshock Infinite + DLCs Burial at Sea episode 1-2
Borderlands 1 + DLCs
Borderlands The Pre-Sequel + DLC Claptastic Voyage
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Half-Life 2 + DLCs

Many of the 64-bit games also work in 10.12-10.14.

both those metro games show in my steam app as being not compatible with Catalina sadly

Yes, it appears so but it's not true. The subject has been discussed at Insidemacgames and Steam. Steam appears to warn for all the apps that have not been verified as 64-bit by the devleopers and marks them as "not compatible". It's up to the developers to check and remove the warning, something they haven't done in this case. Metro Redux has been verified by Mac players at Insidemacgames and Steam to be 64-bit and working fine. Here are other verifications by players on Steam: link 1, link 2

Wow inside mac games. havent heard that in a long time.

Please let me know more about this as it one of my all-time favourite games.
You can subscribe to Feral's newsletter for future information. I don't but as said it was confirmed there. You can also check Feral's radar for upcoming clues. Everybody believes "Save Poor Bob If You Please" is Bioshock 2 Remastered. It's been on the radar for some years but it changed status recently from "Quite soon" to "Soon" after the confirmation in the newsletter. Another place to check is https://steamdb.info/app/409720/depots/. There are two Mac depots there. They are empty but there has been some activity from time to time in the branches regarding the corresponding ID numbers. :)
