Ok guys,

I downloaded Fairmount, VLC and Handbrake. Used Fairmont to import the dvd but it has basically duplicated what was on the Disc and now I just have the TS files from the disc instead of 1 ripped converted file.

Getting well confused as I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Please help!:confused::)

That's what Handbrake does, it copies the contents of the DVD to your hard drive.

Now you use Handbrake to encode the file. (you can encode using Handbrake directly from a DVD, but that leads to unecessary wear-and-tear on your optical drive...take 15-20 minutes to rip a DVD onto your drive, but could take upwards of two hours of disc-spinning to encode directly from the disc.)

Please go to this thread and check out the automated procedeure: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/805573/

You have every other piece of software needed. The scripts included make this process so simple.

Here's the procedure, once you download those scripts:

1- Insert a DVD
2- Choose from a pop-up if it is a movie or TV show DVD
3- Match title of the disc to online database (for tagging purposes)

(Disc rips and spits out when done...you can even get a Growl notification via your cell phone when it's done )

repeat steps 1-3 for as many discs as you want or as many as your hard drive can hold...

Optional: 4- Run a Service to encode those rips (or have it scheduled to run automatically...overnights, perhaps?)

Optional: 5- Drag finished encodes to iTunes with all accompanying tags and artwork included (or have it automatically done via this process for you using Hazel...I believe?)

Hi

I have opened HB to try to encode the ripped dvd that saved in the 'Bartch Rip Movies' folder.

HB just says no valid source found:confused:

Assuming you are using the workflow that was linked by others and me, you use the "Batch Rip • Batch Encode" service. That will execute Handbrake CLI to encode the ripped DVD.

Thanks to everyone for all the help!

I downloaded ripit and then encoded the file in handbrake, that seemed to work!

I had the most recent copy of VLC so not quite sure why that wouldn't work?

If I download fairmount does that mean I won't have to rip the DVD first? Does it do what handbrake does in effect?

Thanks again :D

I believe fairmount will mean you don't have to rip the dvd to begin with. Handbrake will convert straight from the DVD instead of the rip on your hard drive. I dislike this procedure because it causes more wear and tear on your DVD-Drive.

You got it right the first time :) Rip-It to rip to your hard drive, then handbrake to encode. Keep it simple.

When I out the disc in fair mount automatically pops up. I think it's in rip mode? So then when I try to encode on hb it says no source found

Guess I need to change it to encode but not sure how I stop it from popping up
