I use an app called Verbs. it supports google talk and AIM/MobileMe. It's worked really well for me so far. You get local notifications if you're using an iPhone 3GS or 4 - you stay logged in for 10mins in the background. No push notifications yet, but they're coming in an update soon apparently.

Any updated thoughts on the best IM app for GoogleTalk for (i) keeping you logged in and (ii) push notifications? BeeJive has been sucking for me lately on both fronts.

Strangely enough, the free AIM app works really well for this.

I originally got it to stay in touch with my one friend who still used AIM (lol), but recently I added my Facebook and Gchat accounts, and it works really well with all three. You can stay logged on for at least 24 hours (maybe longer), and it sends push notifications. My only complaint is that it takes a little too long to load each time you change to another app, but it's a pretty minor issue.

Same here, I now only use Whatsapp and for those who don't have Whatsapp they surely have a Gmail account these days so I use Verbs for google talk.

Verbs will be the best IM client on the market once they get MSN, Facebook and Push notifications in there.
