Well in order to be the best invention it must be the standard for comparing all other inventions to.
Therefore it has to be Sliced Bread.

Sliced bread goes stale far quicker... therefore surely the best invention is the unsliced loaf of bread. or perhaps the bread knife so you can cut it yourself and have fresher bread.
Or maybe the breadmaker? after all, without the bread we have nothing to slice.
